    Hi,

I heard a rumour that new revisions of the Panny DVI board are meant to be coming out with added support for 50Hz (I assume native res @ 50Hz).

Can anyone else confirm or deny this??

Would be great news!!!!

    Cheers

    JJ

There were a few rumours knocking around this forum at the back end of last year.

Panasonic were rumoured to be making an announcement this month.

    See what happens.

You think the new DVI boards wont work with 6/7 series then? I thought the 6D was the same for 6 & 7 series...

I was hoping that the existing 6D board would have some firmware revisions to add support for 50Hz @ NR irrespective of the plasma itself...maybe just wishful thinking ;)

Wot is that purple thing JJ? I'll get my Panssonic spy working on this too. It could explain why there are no digital cards to be had whatsoever at present.

Please can you get your spies to spill the beans, as I have just placed an order for a DVI board for my PW6. It is on back order, but if there are going to be revisions then I will cancel and wait for the revised boards.

And would they be willing to upgrade the firmware of the cards that don't support it currently in the market?

JJ, can you point me to that post?

Well from what I understand 8th gen boards will not fit 6/7. The design specs for these things are done months/year in advance and 50Hz support just got in on time for 8th gen spec. I don't know when 8th gen comes out but would guess after this summer or August time? My/our spy is going to look in to these rumours but he suspects that they are just that...rumours and that there will be no more 50Hz resolutions except current 576P. We can always hope he's wrong, there has to be a first time I guess.

Nothing personal, but I hope I don't need a logo of a flying PIG to indicate our chances of the above happening based upon experience so far. I'm losing faith in Panasonic, whilst admitting to owning a PHD6, T22LT3, DMR-E95, pan SVHS 850(?), NNA712 microwave, pan DECT phone. :(

Is the 7DVI board actually compatible with the series 6 ? :lease:
I have also read a few postings indicating that the boards may be interchangable.

I'll be happy if a board does appear, then I can finally buy a DVI card and Scalar for my PHD6.

6 and 7 boards are the same apart from the new ones, hdmi, wireless, sdi. The DVI board will work, but will be slightly pointless to you if it won't take 50Hz signals.

    MAW,
Thanks for the info, shame about the HDMI card, but as people have said what's the point of an HDMI card if you've got no sound on the plasma.
I'm trying to be optimistic, there's still hope, however small.
If all else fails maybe we could get a petition together to put to Panasonic?!

    Jasonjo,
We all seem to be posting at the same time.
I just wish I'd bought the PW6, saved the money and put it towards a PHD8.
Mine is still a superb machine thought.

Would seem pretty odd if Panasonic doesn't support existing 5 and 6-series owners also.

I think they don't realize it's the customers who finance their monthly paychecks, worth of consideration if they want to keep their customers....

What did a 50" Panny cost a year ago? £6000 or so, many people bought that for their hard earned cash and now Panny is just ****ing them over and telling them to go buy a new 8-series 50" with all supported cards.

This doesn't sound legal at all and i wonder if and what would happened if this case was brought up in court, i mean if the case is they only will support only the 8-series for the 50Hz signals i can tell you it's the last time i will EVER buy ANY Panasonic product again......

Stating HDMI ver1.1 in the tech documentation and still doesn't support the necessary 50Hz signals? that's something that you could sue Panasonic for in court.

Word back from technical at Panasonic UK is that they are not aware of any changes being made to the board however they are checking this with Japan. Will report back as soon as I have a final answer on this.

Continuing the trend where Panasonic announce new models in spring and then make them available in autumn; one could assume that we will hear more about series 8 (like series 7, 6, 5, 4, etc. before them) in April and will see them in the flesh in September (42" models) and October (50" models).

50Hz HDMI support for 1366x768 would be sweet, and I would be tempted to upgrade my 50" series 5 (from Oct-02) -- I have been waiting for this support through series 6 and 7 to no avail.

But I hear rumours of 1920x1080 plasma panels.

A 50" (Mrs StooMonster has overruled a 65" screen) 1920x1080 plasma with 50Hz support via HDMI would result in an immediate purchase from me, and many others I suspect.

The only thing you can be certain of is that Panasonic will not make backwardly compatible cards.

48Hz (2:2 region1 playback) and 75Hz (PC use) would be lovely too. :zonked:

The 1080P ones are 9th Gen I believe. Unless they are going to slip one in under the radar, which would be NICE :)
