Was about to pull the trigger and go for the Panny E100.

Since been doing some reading on Win XP MCE. Certainly a HCPC gives a never ending upgrade path. Also a EPG.

    Now I can't decide.

    Anybody else looked at this??

Yep, been there done that,......plumped for the Panny as its here now and cheaper than the HCPC route.

Panny = £760 from UK suppliers
HCPC = £900-£1250 (if you can find one for sale)

    Pros / Cons
Panny limited to 80gig HD (in UK), HCPC could have upto 160gig
Panny instant on, has standby and timer recording HCPC does not.!
Panny has an established firmware, HCPC relies on Microsoft OS ( :suicide:)
Panny is very quiet, unless you have a fanless HCPC it won't be..
Yes the HCPC route may offer an easy upgrade path, but lets face it after 3+ years we'll all be using blueray devices or solid state HDD's anyway so the HCPC will become obsolete anyway

    Thanks on_targetz

One of the things that annoys me the most about the E100 is the tuner is only PAL I. I do tend to move around a bit and it would have been nice if it was multi PAL. (like the Philips 15PF9936 tv I just picked up).

Was going to build my own HCPC (already have MCE). I guess you can get around the noise if you are prepared to spend ₤₤₤. My fear was that it still would not be easy to use.

If something like this was available in the UK I would have snapped one up by now.

Even if the E100 could be controlled via a FTA box (with the pending 7 day EPG would be a bonus.)

Looks like the E100 it is then.
