    Hi all,

Why doesn't my recently purchased A160 play VCD's when all the reviews say it will?? ( even the machine has VCD on the front)

If I use silver CD-R's it says "NO PLAY" if i use black CD-R's it says "NO DISC" yet both these discs play fine on my PC and my neighbour and boss' DVD players:confused:

I must admit that VCD playback was the reason I bought the player as my old LG did not support it :(

    Thanks

    Taz.

Taz, you may be in luck if you need to get rid of it.
'If' you do, I'll pay you whatever you paid Tex for it.
I'd buy it for my in laws.

I still think it's non compatibility with the format of the vcd you're trying to play.;)

I have a Panasonic A100 - lower spec than your A160. My A100 will not read CDRs at all - I think you may have the same problem with the A160.

The problem is almost certainly NOT that it won't play VCDs. It is almost certainly that it can't read the data on CDR discs.

Try copying your VCD onto a CDRW blank.

VCD replay is a funny thing; ignore what it states on boxes, machines and paper. Take the VCD and try it in the actual machine to see if it works. As a side note price is not an indication of success. I tried to find a player to play my burned camcorder footage even Philips DVD recorder would not play them but they play on the computer OK. Pioneer seem to be closest to a unversal player.
