Panasonic viera link compatibility

I have a TX32-LXD60 TV, very pleased with picture quality and most features. I have recently bought a Panasonic HDC-SD60 camcorder and the Viera link icons appear on screen but the camcorder does not respond to commands from the remote. Is a software update needed or should I not expect a new camcorder to work with a 5 year old TV? I e-mailed Panasonic about this weeks ago but no reply. Anybody got any info about this?
