I will be buying a new TV either this week or next.

Reading reviews and seeing loads of TV's all the time (i work in comet, weekend job) i think the tx28ps12c is the one to go for.

I'm only 16 so £500-£600 on a TV and a few leads is a lot of money to me. I want to make sure i have made the right decision.

I have read a few threads on an issue with a pale band. This concerns me a lot. How common is this problem?

I have a Tosh SD330 coming (last one was faulty from Amazon) this week so it will be hooked up to that. I also have an XBox.

In about a months time (When i get paid again :p ) i want to get an av receiver and some seperates. I was looking at the mission m7 range and a marantz 4300/4400 receiver. This fits my budget well which in total is about £1000 for everything.

I want to split it around 50/50.

Any advice on the tv would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    \\Chris

I have just bought one of these sets (from Comet, as it happens!).

You're right to ask for advice before buying this set - the picture geometry is awful, and, yes, I've noticed a pale vertical band on dark sequences.

The bad geometry is particulally evident when playing games, as games console usually give black borders to the picture. Its really annoying to see the screen change shape as you drive around Vice City!

I'll be returning the set to Comet tommorow - maybe getting a Sony.

Not really what i wanted to hear, as from a brief look the set looks great and according to the reviews too.

I know that there are geometry settings on this TV. Have you played with those?

What other TV's can you reccomend? Around £500.

Lol. Ahh, but do you have an XBox?

How do you find your setup. It's identical to what i want to get.

When you say mission M7 range what speakers do you actually have?

What sized room is it. My setup is for my 4m square bedroom.

    Thanks,

    \\Chris

I had the TX32PS12 with the pale visible band which was only noticeable when the screen displayed a pale/white scene. Panasonic never bothered to reply to my query so I had it replaced by a Sony KV32FQ70 and am very happy with it. Its had none of the buzzing or red vertical bleed issues associated with the set (but I've only had it for a week or so).

I ran the THX Optimizer on the Panasonic and found that one of the test cards showed slight wobbles in the vertical lines at the top and bottom whilst on the Sony they are all straight.

However in defence on the Panasonic I never had any issues with it when playing games on my Xbox via a SCART cable.

No Xbox I'm afraid, strict PC man me.

I have the M73i as fronts, M71i as rears (on Atacama Nexus stands) and the M7C2 for centre. No sub yet but should be purchasing one at the beginning of Feb.

I only have very small room, sadly, but I wasn't exactly ready to go out spending silly money anyway for the big stuff. The room's about 3m X 3m, the fronts can be a bit boomy with bassy stuff, but putting the bungs in the rear port sorts that out.

I've been having a few problems with the TV to be honest. I like the picture and most things about it but the one I've got has convergence issues in the top right. It also has something weird going off whenever an RGB signal is fed to it. I'm getting in touch with an engineer about sorting this out though - hope it's painless.

What do you mean by this?

I was a strict PC Gamer too but got an XBox a few weeks ago as I thought gaming would be better on my 28" TV than my 17" Monitor.

It's easier to just show you a pic. This is taken when the DVD player has just been turned on and has no background picture set, just plain.

It doesn't look this bad when playing something on it, this is just to highlight the problem.

I also have to say though that the S-Video picture isn't nearly as bad as this and looks very good, I'd just like to have RGB fixed!

I got the 28TXPS12 yesterday and all i can say is WOW!

This set is fantastic. DVD's look great and so does my XBox. Only have an analogue feed going in at the moment but it still looks good.

I'm getting sky+ in 3 weeks which will be even better again!

I dont have the pale band down the middle. There is a bit of "dirt" on the screen. It moved when i left the TV off overnight and switched it on this morning so im expecting it to go with a bit more degaussing, i'm not bothered by it anyway as i cant see it when watching programs, only on a grey background.

So all in all a great TV! Only cost me £400 too!

Turn the auto aspect switching off if you don't like it.

With my Sky+ I set the TV to 4:3.

If a program is broadcast in widescreen the TV will switch to "wide" itself.

When i change channel it will go back to 4:3.

    Hi Tesla,

out of curiosity, where did you get the ps12 for £400? Cheapest I've seen it for online is 428, plus £20 p&P. I've had my eye on this set for a while now, as it seems to have everything I'm looking for.

    Cheers,

    Bascombe
