I am now a little confused.

Can anyone give me advice on the difference between the two and if I should pay the excess and move from 60 to 600.

This is for the bedroom with viewing distance of 8'

Thanks again,

JP:confused:

I think the 600 has 1080p as opposed to the 60 which has 720p.

Splash out if you can afford it and have sources at 1080p (e.g. Blu-ray, HD-DVD, Sky HD, Xbox360, etc) otherwise even with those source 720p is enough for anyone. I wouldn't bother splashing if you are getting only a 26".

They are both 1080i max input.
The differences are mainly that the sound system is apparently better and there is an SD card slot which will record and play lowish quality video. The display also has slightly enhanced software to provide subjectively better quality.
I decided these addons weren't worth the extra cost for the 600.

This TV does not do 1080p.

Have a demo and see which one you like better. As it is for the bedroom, mmm... I would personally save that £400 or so and get somehting like SkyHD to feed the TV.

I have owned both these sets and the 600 is worth every penny more. Sound PQ and connectivity to name but a few reasons. The sound is so much better its is pointless comparing the two. The 600's panel is also visable from any angle which I could not say of the 60. This panel had considerable fade unless viewed anywhere but directly infont of it. The quality of the screen colours is also superior in the 600 with the 60 sporting much darker/duller colours. There is a reason that the 600 is panasonics flagship model, its a million times better than the other sets they produce.

All that said as a budget LCD the 60 comes into its own, but at the price I paid for the 600 it was no contest!

Excellent, this is really helpful... many thanks to all...

I will only be watching Sky SD for the conceivable future until HD becomes more mainstream.

I have considered various 26 inch options and given the poor feeds in the shops I am trying to make an informed decision based on these forums (which are great).

It would be most dissapointing to spend £600 and have a bad picture hence why I would rather bite the bullet and just buy the best.

I guess the 600 is the best at the moment ??

And i thought shopping was supposed to be fun :rotfl: :rotfl:

I could be wrong but I believe they can both (the 600 at least, I'm fairly certain), CAN accept 1080p... just obviously, not natively as the resolution isn't high enough. But I think it can accept the signal. So in theory, the TV would be downscaling the, in theory, if it's done right, best picture possible. Which ain't no bad thing!

yeah any tv can accept 1080p(provided theres a scaler, which all hd tvs have) but it'll be scaled down to whatever the res of the tv is, it wont look better that 720p because thats the max the set'll do.

Both sets are 720p,LXD60 max res 1080i .LXD600 adds 1080p to this. You've also got a VGA dsub for PC connection and SD card slot which I think someone else mentioned. Either of these sets are great and well worth your pennies and IMHO the latter of the two is the best LCD out there at the moment, also if you like the 600 there's a string on here somewhere.

I spend a good 30 minutes in a local LCD TV specialists (Lakes) trying to choose a 26". I tried to ignore the brand names and just stood back discounting them until I'd picked the best (to my eye anyway).

It was depressing to find the picture on the TX26LXD600 so much better than anything else there. I'd gone in looking to spend 500/600 quid rather than 999.99!

After having spent a couple of days at the in-laws watching a Sony 32" Bravia and wondering if all LCD TV's looked that bad it was a relief to find that most don't (the 'smearing' effect on faces is bizzare).

I guess I'll have to dig a bit deeper into my pockets for the 600 ...

From memory, the Bravia smearing effect can be fixed by turning off something in one of the menus, though the 26" S-series apparently uses an 'inferior' panel to the 32" model.

Does anyone know whether the TX26LXD60 will be replaced anytime soon? It has been in the shops almost a year which these days seems a long time for any LCD TV :D

(Please Panasonic give any LXD60 replacement a PC VGA input, but there again it could be an excuse to save for an LXD600 or wait for the Sony U2500 series which will have 2xHDMI and should be available in a 26" size.)

I would probably steer well clear of sOnY's so called budget LCDs(s,u and v series) better options out there unless you're a Fanboy I'd guess;) . I think the LXD60 has been on the market since april/may06 so I would expect some info on its replacment about that time in 07, though I'd think it isn't going to have a VGA input....LXD600 for all the bells and whistles mate.:thumbsdow

The Panasonic 60/600 series of LCD TVs is indeed being replaced very soon - so you should able to get a good price (see above post, for example).

If you 'just want a second tv for the bedroom' than the 26LXD60 is perfectly fine. If you want the best picture quality, than the 26LXD600 wins hands down. You can even see the difference in colour and clarity in a Dixon's shop! (well, I could... )

Also, the sound on the 60 is pants.
