Panasonic TH42PZ70B screen burn???

Hi all,

I am looking at replacing my TV and I am seriously considering the Panasonic TH42PZ70B. I have always been an LCD person but the black levels and motion problems worry me and after reading countless reviews on countless sets, no LCD TV stands out for me.

After being in a store whilst on holiday in Spain, I discovered the TH42PZ70B which was playing in HD. I was absolutely gob smacked by the picture. It wasn't quite as good as the Pioneer set I saw but it was damn close.

The one thing that worried me the most is screen burn. My cousin has a 50" Plasma and sometimes the screen burn will take several minutes to disappear. Am I concerning over nothing?

The TV will be used for HD movies and gaming but mostly for good old SD stuff. I'd really like to hear your opinions. Thanks :smashin:

Thats image retention which usually fades away after a couple of minutes, screen burn is a totally different thing which isn`t really a problem with modern plasmas as long as you don`t abuse them with high settings with logos on display for long periods.

I have just gone from LCD to the 42PZ70 and it is AMAZING. I am very happy with the purchase. If you look around on here and keep the setting down for a run in period of around 200 hrs hopefully you will have nothing go wrong.

Thanks guys :smashin:

I didn' realise that the retention and screen burn were two different things.

Damien - have you tried to play 24p content? If so, what is the playback like?

I've heard a few people complain about a buzzing noise from the set. Is this tolerable?

How does it fair with playing football or other fast moving content such as games etc?

Thanks :smashin:

To be fair i just plugged the PS3 in with Casino Royal for about 5 mins and as stated even the wife was amazed. Not sure if i was running 24fps.

I switched the footie on yesterday and again very good. I know they have annouced the new models now but for £900 i dont think you can beat the 42PZ70. I am very very pleased, it is a bit of step up from the 26". Cant comment on freeview and anologue as we do not have an aerial where we are. Ice Age 2 yesterday was brilliant with the TV doing the upscale.

PS: Not heard any buzzing.

Thanks mate!

Where did you get it for £900? That would be well worth it!

Yep JL! I actually got it for £879 as they price matched Askdirect. I wanted the 5 years warranty. Get them to pricematch ASKdirect again. They have it at £869 now, you will need to wait for it to come back into stock though.

I found this useful:

Damien, I just had JL call confirming they can deliver the 42PZ70 and confirmed my price match of £899 with JL Watford. Did you have trouble getting them to price match Askdirect?

Which JL did you purchase yours from?

Lastly, I am trying to persuade myself that its a good deal and not wait for the 42PZ850!

It was Bluewater that PM'd Askdirect but that did take about 7 days and it was done through the email. They do not have stock at the moment.

£900 including the 5 years warranty is a bargain.

Whatever you buy today will be out of date tomorrow. It is always the same with technology.

Expect to pay twice as much for the PZ850 though!

I don't think John Lewis deliver to Northern Ireland sadly. Can anyone confirm this? It's a shame as it seems really good value.

Search on the JL thread as i am sure that someone got JL Liverpool to PM and then got free delivery to Northern Ireland too.

Worth a search!

Fantastic! I tried it and it came up with free delivery at the end after I put in the post code. Thanks a lot for that! Now I have to wait for a decent set to come in stock ;)

RakeshP - where did you price match to get £899 with JL?

Has anyone got a better PM recently - don't forget - you can PM with JL upto 28 days later also - so if price drops - you get the better price too!
