Finally succumbed on Saturday and splashed out £952.99 on a Panasonic TH42PX60. I bought it from Sound and Vision in Bolton (by going into the shop) and am desperate to get my hands on it and wall mount for Christmas. Thing is, is that it's in stock and I'm only 20 minutes away. I have got delivery included but have to wait for a phone call 48 hours before delivery. I will be wapping my car on Wednesday from a 1-series to a 3-series Touring. Question is will it fit and so enable me to collect personally or will I have to wait and take the chance? No idea of the size of the box but I do know that they have to be kept upright.

    Anybody able to help?:lease:

I was in a similar quandary when i purchased mine from Sound and Vision, i went to the taxi rank over the road and hired one of the mini buses to follow me home with it, cost me £30 but i didnt want to wait until later this week.

It's only 20 minutes away on the motorway. I actually live in Warrington so a black cab might be extortionate. Did you get any money off for transporting it yourself (might offset cost of black cab/minibus???

    Box dimensions are

    115cm wide
    82 cm high
    39cm deep

I reckoned I was only a bit off getting it in a Ford Ka... so there's a chance in a 3 series - whatever that is like... But it must be bigger than a Ka.

EDIT : Have you seen the thread on colour problems with this TV? I would recommend that you ask Sound & Vision what they would do if you discover the purple snakes on your set. I am waiting for a response from them as to whether the photo I sent them indicates, in their experience, a fault or not... so if they say they haven't had any reports of them they are fibbing.

Thanks for the info. Yep have seen the purple snakes thread and they (Sound and Vision) are aware that it is a problem on some sets. If that is the case then I would expect asn exchange set. You sound like you are having problems with S&A?

S&A? Do you mean S&V? I am not having problems yet.... They have offered to come an collect and swap but if Panasonic say it is not a fault then they (S&V) will charge me any costs they incur. I have asked them, as experts in TV, whether the photo I sent indicates a fault or not... but have had no response yet.

You say you would expect an exchange set.... yes - you may get an exchange set but would you like the possibility of being charged if Panasonic then say it is within tolerance?

got my home in the back of a Seat Leon.

i took the back seats out and the pX60 box fitted perfectly across the floor in the back. well pleased. wedged the seats in to keep the thing upright.

When we got the 42inch PX600 the box was huge and that thing needed 2 grown men to lift it, it was that heavy that thing didnt fit upright in the back of an Mk 3 Escort and thats bigger than a Ford KA, so how it would fit upright in Ford KA is beyond me.

If your talking about the 3 series i guess you mean BMW 3 series estate :)

Any way i guess it would fit but unless your made like Rambo you wont lift it on your own in or out of the car.

I didn't say I did fit it in a Ka. I said I almost could... but I removed the rear seat base before I measured up.

At Sound and Vision there is someone there to help you with it... they don't just dump it at the door and leave you with it. I thought I would struggle on my own at my house but it was surprisingly okay (though mine was a 60 not a 600...can't see there being much difference). Managed to get it from the van into the house no problem.... a lot easier than lifting the old 32" CRT off the stand. It is a lot easier and safer with 2 people though.

I collected two a couple of weeks ago from a dealer in Birmingham, they just fitted upright side by side in my mates Astra van, I think you might struggle getting them in a BMW 3 series, I knew I wouldn't get them in my Jag or my wife's focus but luckily got a mate with a van

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to S&V (not S&A LOL) and they have said definitely not to trying to transport it home in the car. Still no phone-call from the courier compnay so I called them and they can't give me a delivery date except to say that it "should" be before Christmas. If it comes on Saturday then that doesn't leave me much time to get it on the wall and sink the cables. Don't really want to be doing that on Christmas Eve, would prefer to be at the pub TBH

Suppose to be picking mine up on Thursday.

My mates got a transit van and an estate car. He seems to think that it will fit in the estate car no problems. Can anyone confirm this.

Also, as I am getting the Cab version I assume the cabinet comes in seperate box, so any ideas how big that is?

Depends on the estate car. I think height may be the issue. Something like an MPV has a higher roof, whereas I know my old A4 Avant, although quite large, was quite low. Now I just chuck all manner of stuff in the back of my Land Rover.:D

I've given you the size of the box in this thread. The only way to tell if it will fit is if someone measures the space in the vehicle you are planning to use.

Can't give you the size of the CAB box though. Maybe the people you are buying from can though?

I was going to pick mine up in a friends Passat estate but it was a bit of a squeeze when we measured up. In the end I paid for delivery in store and was happy in the knowledge that if anything happened to it en-route the shop would be responsible.
It`s your call at the end of the day - as long as you keep it upright there shouldn`t be a problem.

Anybody know why they should be kept upright - is it just a matter of keeping the components inside happy and settled ???

I thought it was because of the screen being made out of glass and so any flexing whatsoever could mean a crack. Keeping it upright obviously does away with that issue
