    Hi all,

I'm about to purchase a 42" in the next few days and just have to decide between these two models.

    Panasonic TH42PE30B

Pros = Won lots of awards
Cons = Can't find much about any potential problems in these forums, 852 x 480 pixels

    Hitachi 42PD5200

    Pros = Highly rated by some, 1024 x 1024
Cons - Hated by a lot of people, potential buzzing noise, only 1 scart

Good image is a priority as well as some future proofing. I'll be connecting it to an NTL digital box.

Before I put my money down, which one should I buy?

    (PWD7 was my third choice)

    Thanks

Just found out that the panasonic lacks digital input.

    Would that be a problem?

depends what you want to connect/watch..... more interestingly the 1024x1024 of hitachi is ALIS and not comparable to the 852x480 of the Panny and Panny wont accept 720p via component inputs .....

    Just DVD's and NTl...mainly sky 1 (I'm a sad sci-fi geek).

When I looked at the screens in the shop, they looked very similar. Saying that, the PWD7 looked really good.

My heart says the panny, but my head says the Hitachi. I don't know what to do!

Is the TH42PE30B better than the PWD7?

Come on, it's no contest. The VIERA PE30 wins hands down.
Try putting the two side by side and you'll see what I mean.
You only need a digital input on Hight Def panels when using a High Def feed.

PLEASE note THE HITACHI is not an HD panel 1024x1024 is an ALIS resolution not HiDEFINITION

I think Veira is a much much better TV and HC display Hitchi take a lot of work to getb them look any good and usually all run via PC

Having gone further into the forum, I think it will be between the PE30 and PW7B. Going to pop into a couple of shops tomorrow for further investigation.

Good choices. I guess it just depends on whether you was the TV look or the monitor look.
Where are you BTW as I may be able to recomend somewhere.

Having seen the 5300 and Viera side by side I would easily recommend the Viera. The only ALIS panel I have seen that I would buy are the Philips PF9966 or the Fujitsu HHx30; both of which I have seen side by side to the PW6 panel & actually preferred them to the PW6.

Having said that if I had Viera money then I'd go for the PH7 panel + terminal board + desktop stand + 2 years extra warranty for £2,900ish from www.av-sales.com or other similar GOOD retailer. :)

Without meaning to sound like a noob, how does the ALIS scan work by the way?

I'm in Essex. I have both PRC and RGB shops around the corner from me, but I'll probably get it from AV sales as they have cheaper warranty.

Although I might now wait until January sales to get it.
