Hi, I'm new to the forum here and about to buy my first plasma.

I'm leaning toward the above unit right now, but have been reading the forum here and am a little concerened with the lip sync problems that have been mentioned. Can any of you guys out there give me some pointers on how to avoid this?

    I'm currently running :-
    Sony KV32-FD1 CRT TV
    Denon AVC-A1SE
    Denon DVD-A1
    Sky + Unit
    Panasonic SVHS Video
    KEF THX Speakers (Full compliment)

    Many thanks in advance,
    Paul.

It may be worth contacting Denon about the upgrade kit for the AVC-A1SE which includes an audio delay of upto 200ms. This should be ample to solve any potential problems.

I would recommend not gettng this unit anyway and getting the 6 series, you will save bundles, get a better PQ and as you have sky plus not lose any functions.

I was gonna get this model too until watching this next to the 6b and really do think it is a waste paying for the analogue tuner and speakers if you have an alternative IMHO.

Also, i have the 6b and have no lip sync issues at all.

I have never sync probablems on a PA20, using marrantz DV4300 and AV4300 through Gallo's Pa20 is great if you want to watch eastenders or the news without turning amp etc on the Video drive circuits in the PA20 are the same as those in the PD30 IMHO apart from the cost saving of PW6 over PA20 (which once you have added speakers and 3 input boards is minimal) or sometimes more expensive!

I have a pa20 and have not encountered lip sync probs. IMO the PQ is as good as Panny 6 and is a good complete system.

The PQ? I know the PW6 is the same screen without the speakers etc.

Can anyone else explain the difference between the two.

I'm probably going to dem a PA20 this weekend.

I've asked this question before. Apart from the tuner, speakers etc I think the screens are supposed to be identical specs wise. When I had a demo of both screens I fell for the PA20. IMO It was much better with a sky signal.

I'll be using it mostly with sky. It's just this 'lip sync' issue that I've heard about is giving me nagging doubts.

The TV I have now is fine and although the display will be ultimately superior, I'd hate to replace it with something 'inferior' if you get my meaning.

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go for a dem, it's the only way to be sure.

How long have you had yours and where did you get it?

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Had mine for just over a month. My main input is a ntl box but I also have a motorised dish, which I use sometimes. I watch a lot of sports and my main worry was getting a good picture on sky. I have not been dissappointed.

I got the plasma from John Lewis with a price match, with the 5 years gaurantee thrown in. The guarantee was important especially with the issue of screen burn with plasma's.

    luckydip,
What company did you price match your pa20 with at John Lewis? Did you have any problems doing it?

    Regards

LuckyDip, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the unit?

    Were JL helpful?

I got mine for around £3300 which was price matched with Techtronics. On the day I bought it the sales staff could not get through to TT to confirm price. I had to got through the undersales dept. I then had to chase it up twice but the difference came through without any probs. The engineers came with the TV and set it all up for me. I also bought a pioneer surround system (also got this price matched with TT) and this was also setup. I bought everything on my Barclaycard so if JL cocked up then I still had Barclaycard price promise to fall back on.

Is it standard practice for JL to price match internet prices, and also do they offer a 5 year guarantee on all their plasmas?

Difference is PW6 has PW5 video drive circuits but with otional inout modules unlike the fixed PW5 inouts. PA20 has the same video drive circuits as the lovely PD30 CRT range. For anyone who is interested.

JL used to match internet prices but not anymore. In order to get a match the place must have a retail outlet and have the item in stock.

I believe that a 5 year guarantee is offered with all their plasma's.

You said the PA20 has the same video drive circuits as the lovely PD30 CRT range. What do you mean by that? Is it good or bad?

For information JL Nottingham and Bristol have said they will have the 37PA20 in in the next two weeks. They will also price match Techtronics at £2,685 and still give you a 5 year warranty.
