Does anyone have anything to say about this model?
What is the built in tuner - is it analogue or digital and is there 1 or 2 tuners. What are the speakers like, are they built in or seperate and how many? What inputs are supplied and what else would I be likely to have to add to the unit as supplied?
Any information would be gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Peter

Yes, thanks, I'd seen this already but it doesn't answer my questions above.

    It says "2 tuner Picture-In-Picture"

Have you tried speaking to them? Liam is a regular on here and may be able to answer your questions.

OK so it answers 1 of my questions but not the rest. And yes I have tried speaking to them and I've been told the information will be e-mailed to me but it hasn't arrived yet and will probably be the same as is on the web site.

Liam is having a well earnt holiday at the moment so hopefully I'll be able to answer your questions in his absence.

I've just spoken to our Panasonic rep who confirms that this unit has 1 tuner and it is analogue. The speakers are integral to the unit.

Panasonic has launched this product as a 'plug it in and off you go'. Bear in mind it will need either a wall mount or stand which are ordered seperately.

    Hope this answers the questions

    Regards

    Alastair

Panasonic TH-42PA20B specs seem to be the worlds best kept secret! (Especially the inputs) There is another thread already running on this forum. I myself am steering towards the TH-42PW6B. It would appear that we are going to once again get ripped off on this side of the pond. In comparison to the US version it seems to be missing the following
    1. Dual tuners
    2. DVI input
    3. Desktop stand supplied as standard

Note US model supports NTSC only is the UK Pal only?

There is some good pic of the US version here

I had been waiting for the pa20 for ages as i thought it was going to be perfect.

I have seen it working with the pw6 next to it, and hopefully the following will help: -

there is no DVI input!! and the VGA input is on the front so is a bit of a waste.
There is also only 1 Component input, but there are 2/3 scarts cant remember but will check for you.

Aesthetically it looks excellent, but realistically it is not comparable to pw6 as it is so restrictive.

It does have 2 tuner PnP definately.

There is a fair bit picture quality loss due to the circuitry in comparison to the PW6 also.

If like me you wanted it because it was simple then perhaps you would consider what i am also going to do and buy a Pace twin digital set top box plus in built hard disk recorder. That way you have digital TV, with 2 tuners and built in hard disk for recording. The Twin did have problems, but i have just purchased it with the new software download and must say it seems to be perfect. Just need the PW6 now. It may even save you money for better setup IMHO

Oh yeah the speakers were fine, but to be fair if you are spending £3,700 on a TV then you either have or should have a decent set of speakers already (Pace has optical digital out......superb)

You will also need to purchase a stand as one is not included.

    Hope this helps

Anyone interested in this model here is a link to the user manual for the US version. Some of the differences have already been mentioned above.

Its one tuner and its analogue. You can set the tuner to output onto one of the SCARTS for feeding into a Video. The features of the tuner are almost identical to the external tuner box on the Pannny 5 [i.e. crapola].

    Regards,
    Neil.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks as though this unit isn't going to live up to my expectations. I wanted it for the bedroom so an all in one solution would have been ideal. C'est la vie.

As others have said no matter what the 'feature' list is on the PA20 model it doesn't compare image quality wise with a PWD6.

Pioneer UK launch the NEW PDP-434HDE to the UK trade on 18 Sept 03 and initial reports I've had are that at long last someone has produced a decent Media Box.

I dont believe the in built tuner will be Free2View* on the Pioneer so you'll have to have one of those hidden away** somewhere and the new speakers are NXT side or base mount.

There are plenty of SCART and YUV inputs on the Media Box and a pair of HDMI HDCP digital video /audio inputs.

    Best regards

    Joe

*I think it would be a bit restrictive to have an integrated Free2View when not everyone can receive the Digital signals - I know I cant!

**Pioneer now produce a Free2View tuner (DBR-TF100GB ) so possibly the HDE remote will give you control of one of these hidden away in a cupboard.
