Hello

I want to buy a new 40" or 42" HDTV next month and have been looking at the Sony 40V4000 and 40W4000 LCD's,
however most retailers say they are sold out and sony have apparantly told them they have no idea when they will be able
to supply them with new one's so there is a very good chance that buy next month they will all be sold out so im looking at plasma alternatives.

After looking around, the best plasma i can afford is the Panasonic TH-42PZ80
and i just wanted everyone's opinion's on this plasma compared to the two sony LCD models
i mentioned for the following sources and approx amount of time each source will be used.

Xbox 360 - 30%
Playstation 3 - 30%
Blu-Ray - 30%
DVD - 10%

Thankyou:thumbsup:

I had a Sony KDL-40V4000. Nice display, but to me NOT a TV. The picture was good but very matter of fact, no passion or vibrancy and to be honest - flat. And this was HD too. My mum's Sammy 42" 456 plasma, not even it's class leader, just made me feel like I was watching TV not a giant monitor! Odd, but to me LCD is out of the picture. Grey blacks, motion issues and terrible SD. Until 75% of what I watch (like TV, movie releases) are in HD and it become the norm rather than the exception then I'll stick with what is most adept with both formats, and that is plasma.

p.s. Sony was sold in prep for a plasma when I've completed my house move. No regrets.

i have been asking around too. (im looking at KDL52W4500 and TH50PZ80) and heres the short conclusion i have:

plasma because it has a glass front, it's as not good for brightly lit room. and LCD doesnt do as well in darker room because of the backlight, although new ones seem to be ok. but then again, under any light condition, plasma colour really outpreform LCD. hope this helps.

yes, thats another thing i have been told/found out at the shops. plasma feels like a TV, and LCD feels liek a gaint monitor.
