Panasonic TH-42PX70 PED

Hi All

Hope someone can help.

I recently purchased the TH-42PX70 PED at a bargain price with the 5 year guarantee. Not really the ideal time to buy for me but could not resist the offer.

I now need some advise about a sound surround system. Unfortunately I have little knowledge of this kind of thing and do not know too much technical information.

Questions - Am I able to just buy stand up speakers to improve the sound quality or MUST i buy a full home theatre system? I have Sky plus and watch dvd's. If so what kind of speakers should I be looking for?

If a full home theatre system is required I think I will have to wait until later this year. Is the Panasonic PT850 the model I should be looking at or will the PT450 be suitabkle for the type of TV I have? I have also read that the Yamaha AV-3101 system maybe suitable.

Please can anyone help bearing in mind I currently only have a limited budget.

Any help and advice appreciated.

Cheers
dan

Don't try to plug some bookshelf/speakers stand-mounts directly into the plasma - it isn't designed to run large speakers.

You'll be better off asking about the Panny PT models in the All-in-One Section further up this site.

Depends on what you currently use to view DVDs, I'm guessing a standalone DVD player hooked direct to the TV. If so you will need some form of amplifier to drive the additional speakers. Full 5.1 surround sound can make a good movie a totally immersive experience and is well worth the investment. By far the easiest and quickest way into surround sound is to buy the all-in-one system such as ones you mention. I'd suggest taking a quick look at the reviews on Amazon as a quick reference as one review mentions the PT450 is not compatible with the digital out from a Sky box (optical) which probably rules it out for you.

When it comes to sound, the only opinion worth taking any notice of is that of your own ears. If you like the sound, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I'd suggest getting to a Pana dealer with one of your favourite DVDs and having a watch and listen (and if you like it, say "thank you very much I'll think about it" and see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere! ;) ).
