I'm looking to purchase a Plasma TV and narrowed the field to 2
finalists Panasonic TH-42PHD6UY and Pioneer PDP-4340HD

I understand the Panasonic is the commercial model and the Pioneer a
    consumer.
The consumer equivalant of the Panasonic is too large for my space and
the commercial version has the same screen circuitry. In addition the
commercial version lacks speakers and an internal HD tuner which I do
not require because I plan to use my exitsting surround system and
    cable signal.

After I purchase a stand and a DVI Boord the Panasonic is still
    ~cheaper than the Pioneer.
Although $500 is a significant sumI'm more concerned with getting the
    best product.

    Your feedback is welcomed

I take it you are in the Us or canada Jeffery, reaqlly need to see both running as they are both very very good but different. Get a demo using same source if possible and see how you get on.

You might also want to consider the new 434mx commercial Pioneer as it may well do what you want as well and narrow the cost gap.
