Panasonic TH-37PW4 auto-format

I have the Panny in the title with the RCA type input module (e.g. component, RGB, composite, audio) plus the plasma has PC input. I am using it with a combination of Pioneer DVD, Panasonic HD-DVDR, JVC S-VHS & Netgen i-player STB). My question is, can I put something in place which will automatically switch between 16:9 and 4:3 input material? I mostly use the RGB input on the plasma as the picture is superb. I someimes use the Component if I watch an old VHS tape. I can cope at present switching manually between formats but the Panny cycles around the formats which gets very tedious. There is no pin 8 switching as I had to make my own SCART to 5 X RCA cable as the Panny has no SCART input. There is an auto format on the component input but it is too slow and easy to confuse. What I need is an expert. Help!
