Panasonic SD90 flicker issue

Looks as if the AVCHD specs have varied a bit over the years?
The spec sheet for my Panasonic SD5 has the HG format as CBR, not VBR (see here, page 130 ) and the MediaInfo tree for my 1080i files shows almost identical information to the one you quote, with the exception of the bit rate 'variable' line, which of course doesn't appear.
Interestingly, the 'Overall bit rate' is quoted as 12.7Mbps, with the 'Maximum Overall bit rate' is identical to your list, at 18.0Mbps - presumably the max possilbe rate for HG files?
In the 'Video' section, the bit rate is quoted as 11.9Mbps - again, of course, no 'variable' line.

Clearly, these specs are not 'set in stone', as it were.....

My clip was shot using a Sony camcorder not a Panasonic. There will be some differences but both should be within the AVCHD spec. Even with the same camcorder using vbr the average bit rate will be different according to the content, scenes with rapid action will have a higher overall bitrate.

Graham / Phillip. Thanks for your suggestions. I've run mediainfo on both the original clip and one that PD10 produced, copied below. The original clip from the Pana camcorder is 1920 X 1080 interlaced. The produced clip is 1920 X 1080 MBAFF which I see from other posts could be because it is a panning shot. Whether it is i or p I don't know! I've produced another in 1080p and it looks the same.

I've also tried it at 720p and it might be a bit better, but not as good as the original. The Trial version of PD10 doesn't seem to let me specify 1080i as output. Maybe the full version does.

I intended to watch my edited images on a 26inch Panasonic which is 2 years old. I was hoping to do this via my HUMAX Foxsat using a USB or an external disc. (Except the output from PD10 was rejected by AV2HDR as “no NAL SEI frames in H264 source video”)

Alternatively and more likely as my amplifier has just died I am considering (after comments seen on this forum) a home cinema system with a Blue Ray player that takes input from an external device. I like the look of the panasonic SCBTT270EBK but am not sure that will take the files. Alternatively the LG HB44S 2.1 as I don't really need the rear speakers. Any advice appreciated!

From other comments on the forum I think I need to update my card drivers anyway. Power Director seemed like a good package – I tried Sony Vegas platinum 11(trial) but found it difficult although relooking at the output it had none of the issues I have here – it dealt with swirling dervishes in poor light perfectly..
