Panasonic SD7000 Camcorder Hot Shoe

I have a Panasonic SD7000 camcorder and have just bought a RODE On Camera Mic which is supposed to fit onto the hot shoe of the camera. It doesn't - the hot shoe is too small.

Can anyone recommend an adapter for this - or maybe even a different microphone which will fit (or handheld) which I can use for outdoor voice interviews (so directional mic) for about £75? I can return the RODE if there's a better option.

Thanks for your help!!

Cannot find the SD7000. Are you referring to the SD700? The Canon HV range have hot shoes.
The SD700 has a cold shoe i.e. it has no electrical contacts but will hold a mic or lighting. The shoe is a standard size and will take any standard attachment.
You could buy a bracket, attach the camera with the tripod screw mount, and use the shoe fittings for your mic.

I use the Yoga EM-268 electret condenser mic with a homemade "deadcat". I find it very effective.

I would be careful of any wireless mics. They can cause noise problems.

Apologies - I did mean the SD700.

It definately isn't the same size as the hotshoe attachment on the microphone. Can you recommend where I can get a bracket from?

The fact it's a "cold" hot shoe is no problem at all. All I need it to do is hold a battery powered mic.

Thanks for your help - this is all new to me!

UPDATE - Just looked in the box and found the adapter!!!! Many thanks!! :)

Look under "camera brackets" on Amazon. There is quite a range there.
I did wonder, as you said the camera had a "hot" shoe, that it would be carefully designed to take ONLY Panasonic bits!!! This often happens.

. . . Welcome. . . .
Good to read that's sorted - now let us know how this improves yr vids.

for outdoors you need a "fluffy" zipped over those foams - however, on-camera mics will suffer from noise pick-ip, handling/switches and the camera AGC can be a nuisance, if the noise-source (speaker) goes silent. However, outdoor filming usuall present all manner of noise-pollution - it's as though everyone knows you're recording audio!!!
