On stage now, Panasonic are making much of the content that will be available in 3D this year.

Panasonic say it's the year of 3D content and they will continue to sponsor Direct TV to produce new content. Let's hope it's true or it's going to die before it ever really started. They say by 2012, 7 million 3D TVs will ship accouting for 2/3 of sales. Of course a lot of the reason for that is that it will come in approx 2/3 of TVs!

They were showing off the Z10000 camcorder that allows for 3D capture as well as 2D and cuts in half the distance needed to achieve 3D images - it's now only 18 inches and not 3 feet.

The Olympic games, as we already knew, is going to be filmed in 3D. NBC will be shpwing it in 3D, presumably we'll get some 3D coverage here too, probably through the BBC HD channel. There will be over 200 hours of 3D coverage in the USA.

3D close-ups down to 18 inches you say?

Let's guess what film industry will flock to this camera?

You didn't miss that much unless you're big in to Smart TV. Very very little in the way of interesting product shown off.

Just a tweak? They're talking about a new motion driving algorithm, better screen filters, better MLL presumably, better gradation, 4:4:4 support for gamers and some BD players (which admittedly Samsung has had for a while), and a 3D method that's being marketed explicitly as Progressive which will hopefully get rid of the resolution limitation that's been present on 2011 Panasonic PDPs in 3D.

Sounds like more than a tweak to me :)

That's the reason I was so disappointed with the conference, so much to tell...

Except they didn't talk about any of that David, LOL. I have sat through some boring press conferences but that one was by far the worst and most misguided launches I have seen yet! Plus they want to get more poeple around the TV and then proceed to show lonely people watching TV but interacting with cyber friends! And then a Video for MySpace TV which was a great commercial for Apple products - at a Panasonic launch where they were launching similar products. I expected far better.

    Indeed:laugh:
Im hoping you and steve will shed some light on all the changes.:D All you see on the Panasonic site is flash marketing names for things. If they have sorted the issues of 2010 and 2011 out and made the sets brighter whilst still having a good black level, without creating more big issues I'll be happy.:D

Im sure there will be more but they haven said anything I can find. Yes "better MLL presumably", "new motion driving algorithm" likely creating a new bug in there(sorry I'm a cynic at the moment) Better 3D fine but What I many others would prefer is working 2D.

    We shal wait and see.:)

I thought it was a dreadful press conference. Utterly boring. The only thing that kept it remotely interesting was playing where's wally trying to spot Steve and Phil in the crowd shots :) I went to bed halfway through. Samsung and LG were better presentations.

Watched that from start to finish live and wish I hadn't. What is it with so many of these presentations using people who can't present. I do presentations regularly at work and I think my colleagues would commit suicide in front of me if I was that dull, uninteresting and self gratifying. I loved the number of times they shake hard with Justin made me laugh anyway. Least Phil and Steve can pass on the important details to us without the marketing fluff.

So it sounds like Panasonic are saying "2012 is the year for sad people with no friends in the real world"
What is it with these television companies? Do they think we're all 12 year olds with a facebook obsession?

I remember watching the video of last year's presentation and was shocked at how bad the presntation was never mind the content.....this year the content is worse so the woeful presentation really stood out by the sounds of it. From the still I have seen it's the same guy who is hosting it. Head of Panasonic USA or something ? Unbelievable for a media company to be this bad. I am not really surprised at them promiting a product that effectively promotes anApple product.....after all iPod/iPhone compatability is a major selling point of so many products and so many people want to be associated with Apple.

I was watching live, and was actually trying to picture your face when they wrapped the whole thing up without a mention of any of their Plasma displays!
