I have an SA-XR55 and am debating whether to sell or keep. It runs through optical out from my PC to the receiver's optical in.

Since it's release, there's been other amps, like T-Amps from various companies, including Sonic Impact and Topping. Then there were also ICE amps found in digital receivers from Onkyo and Pioneer and others. Aside from that there are the traditional analog amps that continue to be made.

How do all of today's best options compare to SA-XR55? Is it still a keeper or been way surpassed by the current stuff?

Thanks!

I was wondering this as well. Its a very interesting amplifier. One of the very few digital amps that don't perform D to A conversion on digital inputs.

Here's a few reviews and articles:

The consensus seems to be that its good at subtle, but not so good at unsubtle.

I did see a test somewhere that showed it was very load-tolerant.
