Anyone else experiencing pauses, jumps, blips (not scientific terminology I know) during playback?

During playback the picture disappears for about 1 second and the screen goes blank either black or blue. The picture then returns about 1 second further on in the same scene. When rewound and replayed at the same section the jump/blip is NOT recreated. This happens on average about 6-8 times during a 90 minute film (VERY annoying  ). It is entirely random and as said cannot be recreated at the points where it has previously happened.

    It is a multi-regionalised unit (or de-regionalised)

    Any ideas, thoughts

I'll give it a week then return it to Sound & Vision. The problem I envisage is that the "blip" cannot be recreated or predetermined and I can't imagine that they will sit one of their engineers on the set waiting for the problem to occur. We'll see!

    Hi,

I got mine yesterday from Sound and vision also, but haven't had any problems.
It's a brilliant player, maybe you have a duff model.

incidently, what connection are you using ?

I have one of these feeding my Pioneer PDP435FDE Plasma via its HDMI output and must say the picture is absolutely stunning in either 750p or 1125i - no problems whatsoever.

Sounds like you may have a faulty machine and you should return it.

Should also say that mine is Multiregion and RCE compatible - got it from Leading Edge Concepts in Newcastle.

    Cheers and good luck,

    Martin.

Just watched "Bad Boys II" (R1) stunning pictures! No blurring, No pauses & very little, almost un-noticable Rainbows.........??? Baffled.

    I'll keep experimenting.

It's not the discs, well at least no problem with R1's only R2's up to now. Will try more over the next few days and weekend.

If it continues on HDMi I'll try Component and scart.

    Cheers

    Hi

Got mine from Sound and Vision before Christmas - feeding Sony HS50 via HDMI. Haven't experienced any of the issues you report, except that the layer change is a little slower than the Tosh DVD I used before. If the problems persist, I would certainly look at getting a replacement - sounds like a faulty unit.

    Cheers
    Nick

How do you find the picture on your PJ. Was looking for a unit to hook up to my Sanyo Z2 vi DVI... Are you happy with the player?

I'm very pleased with the S97, based on experience so far. Difficult to provide a direct comparison with my earlier setup (Sanyo Z1 and Toshiba DVD player via component) because the S97 is being used in an all-new setup with Sony HS50 via HDMI! Certainly impressed by the prog-scan picture resolution over HDMI compared with interlaced component previously.

The S97 offers lots of tweaking options and I'm waiting for the DVE disc to help me carry out some more extensive calibration of the DVD player/projector combo. I'm feeding the projector using the Panasonic supplied 2-metre HDMI cable and the digital coax input of my surround amp using a 10-metre cable (actually one third of the original component video cable). Haven't noticed any video sparklies or audio delay/dropout problems.

    Cheers - Nick

yes, after a bit of tweaking I am so impressed by this player. Fantastic picture through HDMI. Watched Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars last night and still needing to pick my jaw off the floor.
    Brilliant player

    rasb0,

Did you ever get this problem fixed, i too have just setup a tosh with the s97 and am seeing exactly what you describe. The dvd keeps playing in the background but the screen blanks out (or in one case returns to the blue background) for about a second almost as if it loses connection with the tv. This is also a multiregion unit connected over HDMI.

Finally got round to taking the unit back to the retailers showroom.......Quote," That'll just be static on the lens, it often happens, it builds up coz of all the packaging when they're in the warehouse. Have you run a lens cleaner?"
My response  "No, it's brand new!"
"Whip it down the warehouse and they'll run one, that'll sort it. If not they'll send it away."

On arrival at warehouse described fault...."We'll send it back to Panasonic"

    So here's waiting! :boring:

Tosh what? Mine's connected to a Tosh 32WL48 LCD. Don't get any of the described problems but do get a grainy/noisy picture as has been described in some reviews of the Tosh (so assume the Panny is fine).

Shouldn't.........The Tosh is spot on as is the picture quality from the Panny to the Tosh, it's just the annoying skipping and appears to be quite an isolated incident.

I'll keep this thread posted with developments.

Incidentally, the retailer region mod'd this unit at point of sale so if they do return it to Panny as they claim they are going to what will the manufactuer say about that?

Will they actually return it to Panny? I wonder.

Nearly 5 weeks on and still waiting to hear from "Sound & Vision" Farnworth :thumbsdow

Well actually they did e-mail me last week to say they had the part (what part?) and would contact me when it was ready for collection but that was only after I had contacted them to see what was going on. I'm having to do all the chasing up! :thumbsdow

Having to make do with a PS2 to watch DVD's! :thumbsdow

Aftersales service is a true test of a company's commitment to the customer.

Not much going for them here!!! :thumbsdow

I can't believe it. You should have been given a brand new replacement straight away. I would demand a refund immediately.

    Ehhmm!!

Anyone know if I am within my rights to demand a refund or even a straight swap for a new replacement machine?

I'm not an expert, but if you got sold a faulty model, and they are now going to replace a part (5 weeks on and counting), then that's bang out of order.
you must surely be within your rights as they are selling you faulty goods.
I would try it, and if no one can help you I would ask to speak to their manager and insist on either a new replacement immediately or alternatively a refund. Tell him the customer is always right!!!!
Good luck, and let me know how you get on

I'm no legal expert, but I would have thought that, under the Sale of Goods Act, you should be entitled to a replacement machine - let's face it, it will do no harm to try - I know I would.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

    p.s. Best of luck!!

I do know my legal rights, and you are entitled to a brand new replacement or your money back, your choice. If the model is no longer in supply, you are entitled to an equivalent or better model. The shop has sold you goods that were not of "merchantible quality". Pay no heed to their policies, the law overrides these!!

I am loathed after the problems I've had with them, but here you go:

    http://www.soundandvisiononline.com/snv/index.asp

    It's a great price now, £149.89. I paid £250 only 3 months ago.

Be warned, after sales service in my experience, is shocking!!!!!!
