    Hey there,

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know where I can pick up a Panny S97?

I would rather buy a brand new one, but would consider a second hand model.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

    Hey!

You were right, they had 1 left...

    Snapped it up.

It was £150, still better than the £170+ people are paying on Ebay.

    Many thanks!

Yes I saw that one on display instore at Hiway last week. Thing that put me off it was label was marked Sept 2004 on the machine rear. 1 year old before you get it, though it didn't appear used ?

Hmm, well I would have prefered it if it wasn't a display model, but I don't really mind, as long as it works, I can stick it on my Barclaycard and get a free 2nd year warrany cover...

It didn't look like it had been used and the guy said it had not been powered on. So you should be ok.

You never know being ex-display but as i say you should be ok. Because it was manufactured Sept 2004, and not brand new boxed I personally had no interest. You may need to perform firmware updates to get it upto date.

Firmware updates to do what exactly?

I know what firmware is and does, but why would you need to update it?

I have never updated any of my older players, I have a Sony 735 bought back in 2001 (I think), and that still spins every disk I throw at it...?

You need to do a search on the S97 and read on what firmware updates there have been.

Although it's meant to be an excellent player. Early versions I believe had macro-blocking issues via HDMI and only the most recent updates have begun to effectively address these. In it's earliest incarnations the original firmware didn't set the machine alight but the recent improvements have made it into a far improved performer. If they send you the machine that I saw in the shop manufactured Sept 2004 I would hazard a guess it won't have the latest firmware installed ? As I say a search will help you immensely in the meanwhile while you await it's arrival. Updating the firmware shouldn't be a difficult issue to deal with.

    Dang.

    RE: Firmware updates.

If you update the firmware doesn't that reset the "multiregion" settings making the player R2 only once again?
