    Hey there,

    Just a simple question really.

I have a S97 and its currently on 536 firmware, but have heard some peeps say the 541 is better, and others say its slightly worse, and has a pink tint to the image.

Can anyone else (who has the S97 with 541 loaded) comment on this?

Am I better off sticking with 536?

What improvements does 541 have over 536?

I was looking through the avsforum thread on the S97, but that thread is dead, and no-one answers your questions.

    Thanks.

My feeling is that unless you have a SPECIFIC problem that affects you display output, stay on 536. That was the last "best" PAL firmware and it includes all of the major fixes from the original shipped versions. From what I've gleaned from that AVSForum thread, there doesn't seem to be a great deal (if anything) done in 541 - it appears to be a point release to support newer revisions of the S967 hardware chassis?

    Cheers for the reply.

Do you have a brief list of the supposed fixes in 541 and also the supposed problems?

You'll get a lot more info here

BTW, can I ask what you do with four DVD players that show in your signature?

    Cheers,

    Martin.

    Of course.

The Pioneer 575 was my old projector DVD player, but im now using the Panasonic S97. To be honest, I can't tell much difference, the Pioneer is a touch softer, whereas the S97 is sharper, but maybe a tad noisier.

The Sony 735 is under my 24" Widescreen TV, and the S75 is in the spare room under the other TV.

I also have a Sony DVP700NS which is currently out for repair, but i'm selling my Sony 735 to a friend.

When I upgraded from 536 to 540, I noticed the picture seemed softer, as has been noted elsewhere. Going from 540 to 541 seemed to improve it slightly, but not a lot.

I have a 575 too, and the picture on that is sharper than the S97 with 541 firmware.
