I noticed Rob100's comments in the JVC thread on the E30's lack of compatibility with his Sony freeview box with respect to timer recordings. I was thinking of buying the Sony to go with my E50 because I believed the Sony's Smartlink and the E50's Q-link functions were compatible. Are the E30 and E50 similar in this respect, and therefore should I expect it not to work? Rob100, you also said that you tried both recording modes on the E30; did you also try both modes on the Sony, that is, Smartlink and syncro-record? Incidently, I have tried the Philips freeview box (which can output s-video on its VCR scart (like the Sony, but not exclusively negotiated via smartlink) and its Easylink recording function seems to work well with the E50, but I'd prefer the Sony for its 7-day EPG guarantee. The only other freeview box I know that can output s-video on its vcr scart is the new Pioneer, but I'm unsure of its record timer capabilities. Does anyone have a freeview box which they know works with a Panasonic recorder? Particularly, timed events on the freeview box should start and stop the recorder without needing to put the freeview box into standby.
