Panasonic PX70 - 37 or 42

Hi - I,m looking for a consensus of opinion. If price and size of room were not criteria would you go for the 37" or the 42"? I ask this because I will be mostly watching SD (via a cable box so digital signal) and understand the PQ will be better on the 37. But is it so much better that it compensates for the smaller screen?

By the way JLewis are still doing the 42 at 899 - ask them to price match against Peterborough store.

At 10 feet 42" will be fine :smashin:

In fact you would probably get used to 50" pretty quickly from 10 ft if space was not a major consideration.

42" rather than 37".
50" is pushing it as 9ft for HD is fine, but 13ft for SD may mean you can see artefacts at less than that distance.
42" is the safer bet, but it would be best to go to a local specialist and see the two sizes in action and from a distance similar to what you have.

7ft is the min for HD on 42", but 11ft for SD may mean you're compromised to the 37".
Again, go look with you own eyes and see if you can live with the images on a 42" at the distance you have. If so, then Bob's your Aunty at weekends.

Bigger the better.

Find that the 42" is very watchable at 5 feet on SD and 3 feet on HD.
My normal sitting position is 8 to 9 feet.

Just worked out that our main viewing point will be around 10' - of course it's too late as we've ordered the 42"...but just to make me sleep that little bit easier if you can advise me that this distance will be ok for SD/DVD (at this stage at least I'll be happy! :)

It will be fine at 10 feet.

Decision made - thanks
In case you havent already found this out, here is a way to get either the 37 or the 42" at a good price.

John lewis sell with 5 year warranty plus free delivery. Screen only - ped stand is £99 and cabinet is £299.
However the store in Peterborough has had to reduce the 42" down to £899 to match a competitor. This morning I also found that a store in their area had the 37" at £749- a saving of £150. I challenged this and Peterboro rang me from JL and said they would reduce it to £749 due to their price promise.
So - if you contact your local JL (see their website for list of stores) and tell them that you want a pricematch against Peterboro for either then you will save £200 on the 42inch and £150 on the 37 inch. PLUS you get a 5 year warranty free! You can order over the phone with your credit card.
I took the plunge and went for the 42 with cabinet, delivery (cost me £30 as I was out of area) and 5 yr warranty at £1228.
Arent JL just great!

The store did have a website and a normal shop - if you mean the one which was selling it for less than J Lewis. I have the no but left it at work. I'll try and remember and post tomorrow.
