Just been to my local Panasonic store and saw the new Panasonic PV500. It is very impressive. I saw it playing The Incredibles through a HDMI connection, the picture was superb. They had four delivered on Thursday and have two on display and already sold the other two  I asked when they would get some more in and they said Panasonic HQ would not give them a delivery date, but the assistant expected it to be two weeks. Seeing the Panasonic PV500 today has made my mind up, I just have to find the cash. :D :D

Did you view anything else apart from The Incredibles as that will look good on virtually any plasma ? any Freeview for example ?

    Cheers, Lee

I only saw it with HDMI input as the shop was busy. Hoping to go back during the week to have more of a chat with the assistant. I love to hear from anyone who has also seen one.

Just saw one in Panasonic staines. They had no HDMI input only sky,(which would be a lot of my viewing) Got to say little difference between the 500 andPE50 sat next to it. The background was a little sharper. The shop claims it was set up identically to the other. DVD looked good, but I must stress there was no HD source to view. In summary I didn't part with my cash today.

I've owned a 42PA50 for a couple months now, very happy with it overall, in particuliar I fully value and appreciate its superb contrast and incredible depth of blacks (and resulting picture "field depth").

I've had an opportunity to briefly demo a 42PV500 few days ago, and while the increase in details wrt to the PA50 (esp. in backgrounds) is immediately noticeable, what I did notice too is that blacks aren't as deep on the PV500 as on the PA50's (which are now quite the reference in that domain TBH), be it on an HD clip (from a D-VHS via HDMi, wow what a picture!!!) or a regular PAL DVD via Component...

Noticed that difference pretty quickly too, as soon as there was some shade area on the pic. Now, having said that, I then went on to see a 435 Pioneer in action and well, the PV500 blacks still have headway compared to that plasma... So hey "it's all relative" as someone said (and wrote) exactly 100 years ago... :D

Other than that BTW, the PQ on the PV500's is simply and truely amazing! :smashin:

The PV500's are gloss black like the old PE30's.

what difference do the gloss and matt screens make? also, why change from gloss on the 30 to matt on the 50 then back to gloss on the 500? is the matt bad?

To be honest, I took a copy of Incredibles to Currys and played it on a TH42PE50, maybe I'm a pessimist but I wasnt that impressed, especially where the Mum is flying the plane and you see a close up of the instrument panel as a red button was massively pixelated. Maybe this would have happened on any plasma, just I went there to buy something better than a CRT and came away disappointed that the pic was nowhere near as good as a good CRT such as the Tosh 36ZP48P

I think that the matt screens looked cheaper than the gloss ones...and may have been?

ah right, thought there was a technical reason rather than purely looks

Nope purely looks. In some respects the matt finish maybe better as there are less reflections.

I think we are talking about the frames of the screen, not the screen itself?

finally today at my store got a full high def demostration to show on my pv500 courtesy of a japaneses stb and a rec-pot hdd. it has come direct from panasonic themsleves and been shipped from japan. part of it has been converted to uk standard (plug one of the main menus). so in my store i can actually show a true high def picture not a dvd upscalled threw hdmi. and iv got to say the picture is very impressive. the sharpness, rendering and colour management are superb.

yeah iv posted it twice in the two threads that people had complained in. to answer them back!!. how petty can some people be. i was only trying to inform people about something. and i make a good posting in the threads about how good something is and all people do is pick up on how manmy times i posted it. not questions or replys about what iv actually posted.
