Another poster has stated that Panasonic prices are due to drop on Aug 28.
Anyone heard anything?
Taken from here:
That's a 20% drop for the 50" model, if true.
Isn't that just likely to be for the US market ?
Don't know. But I'd guess the price drop will be world wide. At least that's what I'm hoping. We'll find out soon enough...
I doubt that'll happen here
Rip off Britain, remember.
It'll happen alright.
Retail is on its arse at the moment, nothing is moving.
Even curry's are pricematching their own internet
At this rate even the liars will be telling the truth.
The timing would be right, but I don't see them cutting wholesales by 20% overnight, it just happens through price erosion of it's own accord. The PWD8 will be out well and truly then, the PV500 will have lost it's novelty value, and we might even have some stock! Look at the price changes last year after release of the new models, and you will see it's nothing new.
The PE50 is still priced highly, look in Argos LOL, the 42PE50 is like £2k.
FWIW, New York Times is reporting on the price drop in Saturday editions. No confirmation from Panasonic, though.

I see the NYT forecasts 'up to $500' not $500 to $1000, off the most expensive models. That's below 20%. I don't quite know who's being ripped off here, current UK wholesale plasma prices are much on a par with Europe, it's too easy to go to Germany and buy them for it to be otherwise. And if the Japs are making 40% on a screen I'd be astonished. Retailers make nothing like that, usually under 10% these days.
Well, they say up to 500$ off for 3500$ plasmas. The 20% figure was for the 50", which is currently about 5000$. But even if it's only a 10-15% drop it would be quite nice, wouldn't it?
Samsung follows suit:
