Well, we've had a poll for just about every other screen, so I though we should have one for the PE50 owners, and also there are a large number of questions about whether or not to buy this - so this may help out.

Mine has developed a buzzing - JL are replacing when they get more in stock. Otherwise, I'm delighted with the set.

There was a guy on here who bought his at the same time as me and his developed a problem of some sort... think it was with the speakers tho, not the screen itself, although I may be wrong.

Superb t.v. glad I didn't spend the extra on the PV500 - this t.v. performs just as well as the 500 with SD or Hi Def feed.

Well - i'm pleased to see the postive results of this poll.. having just ordered the 42PE50 .. expecting delivery on Friday and I will hopefully write a full review at the weekend (well if I get time away from the tele, that is :) )

My only concern I must say - always was and still is - about buying a Plasma tv is whether or not I will be able to treat it just like a normal old fashioned tele! (ie, I really dont like the idea of spending all this money on a tele and then beind told to avoid channels with logos or watching them with a stop clock in one hand and the remote in the other :), or else ending up with SCREEN BURN.. )

It very nearly put me off from buying a plasma but by all accounts, I arrived the conclusion that the 42PE50 was by far the best option I had given that no one on here has experienced any major problems with retention/burn-in with the PE50 as far as i'm aware.. so yes I've taken the plunge but I still have a few butterflies in the stomach at the thought of the kids watching Cbeebies for 5-6 hours on the trot.. (which will happen sooner or later, I'm sure).

I really hope things work out okay, and I can be here in 2 years time telling first time plasma buyers who find themselves in my current position , loud and clear "DONT BELIEVE THE RUBBISH XYZ IS TELLING YOU, SCREEN BURN IS A MYTH.. GET A PANNY, YOU WONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH SCREEN BURN.. " :)

Am I right in thinking that all these PE50s don't have any input for a PC?

    Correctamundo.

It's just a TV, and from reading a number of threads on the PV500, very few people have had their PCs connected to the screen more than once.

Wouldnt you be able to connect a pc to it via a VGA-Component cable?

steve, i would like to know the same thing. i am seriously considering the 42 pe50 but the lack of pc connection will be a drawback since i would like to use the tv for power-point presentations etc. does anyone know if it can be done?

you could if your graphics card outputted component (radeon 96/7/800s do i think, and newer nvidias - but via DVI), or you could use a converter, but not straight vga signal.

Maybe it would be best to go for a panel - the PW7/8 if you're going to be using this for a serious amount of presentations - it's more suited to it and you can add on the extra functionality of a TV with the input boards.

chris, as someone who has never had a games console ( i had a deprived childhood - my parents gave me an empty box one xmas and said it was an action man deserter) how does a chipped xbox allow pc access to the pe50?

as for the pedestal, i think it looks ok - makes the silver speaker look like part of the stand rather than spoil the black frame of the tv itself.

yeah, i was thinking of that except, for reasons only known to themselves, panasonic don't seem to sell their panels in france, so it's back to the drawing board. they're almost giving away the pe50 at the moment (1800€/ £1250 with two years warranty) so i'm thinking of getting one for now and relegating it to the spare room once hd is widely available and the sets come down in price. still, the lack of pc connection may well scupper that idea. can anyone recommend a similar priced set with pc input with the same build and picture quality? i would be surprised if one exists but hope i'm wrong.

Had my 42PE50 for 7 weeks now and it's been great. I would recommend it to anyone.

One word of warning though, don't press the N button on the remote control. I spent quite a bit of time with a DVE disk calibrating the set after I had run it in then a couple of weeks ago I accidentally hit the N button when I wanted to mute the set and it knocked everything (colour, contrast, etc) back to the factory settings.

A nice feature would be a "are you sure you want to do this" type of message on the screen.

Anyway a few more hours of playing around with the set got it back to where I wanted it to be. :)

I've found the TV for around that price in the UK too, no cabinet, just the free dvd recorder and tv.
