just got it yesterday but their is a buzzing noise comming from thr back not the speekers you can hear it when a program is not that loud is this normal :)

High Tim,
I got the Panasonic TX36PD50C this week and yes it does buzz quietly at the back. I have read about this before and apparently it's quite common on 100HZ sets.
I have a small Geometery problem (straight lines curve in the corners) but I have an engineer coming on Thursday to try and correct this in the Service menu. Do you have this problem?
Also the Virtual Dolby is supposed to work when you receive a Dolby Signal. However, I have played various DVD's but can tell no difference in the sound when I switch the Dolby setting ON or OFF. Can you or anyone confirm if their set is the same.
Feel free to post any other issues as it's good to compare little niggles just for peace of mind.

cant tell the differance in sound
doese your curves only show themselves when you have bars each side ie a 4:3 picture at the bottom left and right
thanks for the reply also doese the buzzing anoy you

Yes you can see the curves in 4:3 / 14:9 on the picture edges but if you are watching a full screen and a door frame or picture frame etc. appears near the corners of the screen then the curve is also noticable.

I sit 12ft away from the telly so the buzzing does not bother me. Only really notice from that distance if on a very low sound setting.

As far as the Dolby sound goes, are you saying you have played Dolby Digital DVD's and there is no difference in the sound when you flick between on and off.
I can't understand why they have this as an option if it does not do anything.

my dvd player has 3d spacialiser sound option and it doesent do a thing
please keep me posted about what the enginerr says please could you ask him about the buzzing thanks
i will be watching a film tonite so will post back tomorrow
cheers

Had an engineer to look at my first tv(pd30) for the same problem. He said it was the proccesser buzzing.I found this too loud and returned the set.

watched a film last night and the buzzing drove me mad also when using rgb on dark senes you got horizontal bars going across which i thought made people seem to shimmer dident happen when using s video on the fron panel
anybodyelse get this

Had my PD50 for a couple of days now. It doesn't suffer from any buzzing sound that I can tell, nor does the virtual dolby appear to do anything (unlike my previous PD30 where the virtual dolby was quite impressive). Picture quality is an improvement on the PD30, with fewer digital problems. Have yet to set it up with my calibration disk so perhaps I can tease out a few improvements to colour balance/contrast/geometry.

If you put your head next to back of the TV on the left hand side as you look at it then you will hear the buzzing. At least you can on mine. Tim's sounds worse though. Let me know if you can here it. I will mention it to the engineer on Thursday when he comes to look at my geometery problems.

yes i sit about 7 foot away and just watched king of the hill dvd and could hear the buzzing on most of the prog will ring them on monday :)

I noticed a slight buzzing when I first got my PD50 but after moving my digital land-line phone away from the set it stopped almost completely. Now I've had the set for a couple of months and it's either stopped buzzing or I've gotten used to it and dont notice it anymore.

I have noticed the vertical lines turn in at the top of the screen slightly which is more annoying.

FAO Extechieman, you mention a calibration disc, where can I get hold of one of these?

Had mine for a week now and haven't noticed any buzzing. I'll have a listen tonight.

I've got component input on the DVD and the picture is awesome although I would also be intersted in a calibration disk. Also noticed even with the contrast turned right up the blacks are very black and you do tend to lose some of the detail on very dark pictures? Anyone else have this problem?

Virtual Dolby sounds no different to me either

Listened very closely today for buzzing, but couldn,t notice anything. Mind you, wifey says I'm deaf anyway! Daver555, the disk I mentioned is from DVE (link below). They supply both PAL and NTSC calibration disks to help set up colour balance, contrast, brightnes, etc, as well as surround sound speaker systems. Quite useful, although a little pricey.
Only problem with my 32PD50 so far is the virtual dolby setting makes no noticeable difference. Think I'll ring the shop and ask why.

Yep I'm a bit annoyed that the Virtual Dolby does nothing. Please let me know if anyone finds out why. Maybe it's a design fault that Panasonic could put right.
I have also noticed with my 36" PD50 that even with the contrast / brightness turned up the blacks are very black and you do tend to lose some of the detail on very dark pictures? Has anyone got a fix for this in the Service Menu?

Oh forgot to ask, has anyone else noticed a slight difference in shade on the right hand side of the screen. Sort of a band that runs from top to bottom which is only really noticable with white pictures. Am I expecting to much of a large screen.
Red16V probably knows the answer to this. Is it difficult to get consistant shading right to the edge of a 36" tube.

Just got in from work and noticed how bright my screen is when I first turn it on.
It takes 4 or 5 minutes for it to settle down to a normal picture.
Is this another design feature of the 36" PD50?
Let me know please.

Phoned shop today to report virtual dolby faulty. They are coming with a replacement set later this week, so I'll let you know if it's any better.

Agree with other posts - no difference to sound on PD50 32" with dolby on. Interested in any feedback obtained from Panasonic.

I have another Panny set with Virtual Dolby and I can't hear any difference with the Dolby on - other than the sound is quieter overall.

Anyone noticed yet whether their picture is very bright on the PD50 for a few minutes after first switching it on?

Got 36PD50 yesterday.
Yes its got the buzz.
Also can't hear any difference with virtual dolby.
Out of the box PQ does seem bright and technicolourish.
Maybe needs burn-in time like audio?
Interested to know what picture settings preferred.

Once you adjust your brightness, contrast, colour etc the picture will look fine.
The problem I have is when you first switch the set on from cold every day the screen is very bright. (Like you have the brightness turned up too high)
After 4 - 5 minutes it then settles down. Does yours do this?
Keep posting good / bad points. I love comparing.
I still have the engineer coming Thursday to sort out the Geometery. Vertical lines still seem to bow in the corners.

got an engineer comming round on tuesday to look at the buzz and the bowing in the corners is anoying me now aswell as the horizontal white lines on black pictures in rgb mode using the cinema setting try it using end credits with a black background
i am looking for a replasement dont want a new tv that has had to have work done on it hope it all works out

Is that a Panasonic engineer you've got coming out? I contacted support at digitaldirectuk.com (where I bought the TV from), and they said that this is completely normal for widescreen TVs, they get hundreds of calls about it, and there's nothing they can/are willing to do about it.

Regarding the virtual dolby, I don't notice much difference either, but every now and again the odd sound seems to pop out from somewhere in the room where I don't have a speaker. I just put it down to the fact that my TV's stuffed into the corner of the room with a bay window on one side and furniture on the other. I guess there's no real substitute for a 'proper' surround sound setup...

Oh, and so not to be off topic :nono: I do get a buzzing noise too, but very quiet - not noticable at more than 2-3 feet away.

The engineer I have coming is from a local outfit that House of Fraser use.
Most people on this Forum seem to think you an improve the bending vertical line problem through the service menu.
I'll see what the engineer has to say tomorrow.
Any one got any comments on the high brightness level when swtched on from cold or noticed that white screens appear slightly dimmer on the far right.
