Hi, I'm after an LCD tv and to be honest I don't know where to start.

I have looked at a few Sony TV's a couple of weeks ago and was told that they were bringing out some new HD versions, I also looked in John Lewis's and the nice assistant told me to steer clear of Sony and go for Panasonic.

I'm after some advice here for a good LCD tv up to 30 inch and no bigger, I have no knowledge about them and after being told Sony were no good I'm kind of feeling a bit lost, is that advice good, should I go for a Panasonic or not?

    cheers

Are you interested in High Definition and sky's upcoming HD service?

The truth is there is probably not much in it between the Panasonic 500 series and the Sony V series if they are both within your budget. It comes down to which your eye prefers to a large account.

Not really seriously interested in HD and have been an NTL cable user for years now so the chances of swapping to Sky are zero really.

No it was a shock, we just asked the guy what the difference was between two Sony models and was told if we were interested it was best to keep away from them and go for Panasonic, to be honest I don't know anything about any of them and just want to be able to go into the usual superstores and order whats reccomended here.

He was proably a Panasonic employee - Panasonic now manage concessions in JL. Otherwsie I'm sure Sony & JL would be really interested in the guy's response - to disparage suppliers products is a sackable offence at JL.

ALso, clearly it doersn't have a clue what he's talking about! Last years floating frame Sony KLV-L32MRX1 is the best LCD TV you can buy, despite now having a digital input. The wega engine is more advanced than used on the new 'v' series it's that used on the 'w'. Indeed, Sony has kept this model current this year so good is it.
