    Hi all,

I've just finally managed to build myself a new PC with a firewire card. I've been trying to connect my NV-DS27B digital camcorder to my WinXP machine through the firewire cable, but have had no joy at all. WinXP does not seem to recognise the camera at all. I would have expected it to just pick up the camera as soon as I turn it on. To rule out the possibility of it being my PC, I borrowed a freinds Sony Camcorder whcih also had firewire - I connected the cable and WinXP recognised the camera straight away. Therefore it can't be the cable or the card.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Also are there any recommendations or somewhere I can find out how to transfer my movies on to DVD so that they can be played on and DVD players (Standalone DVD players). Not looking for anything to flashy but just something that will allow me to create menus etc..

    Thanks

Check this site out for guides on how to convert camcorder footage to DVD:
    http://www.videohelp.com/guides

You should also look a video software application which will capture, edit and output to DVD into several easy steps. Check out the following software. You can download a trial version for 30 days to make sure it works:

If the Sony camcorder works with your firewire card then it looks like your Panasonic camcorder is faulty. I have a DS28 which is in effect the same model but with firewire in and it works OK with Win XP.

Have you got all the latest updates for XP from MS, ie are you on SP2?

When SP2 was released there were a load of reports of Panasonic (mainly) camcorders no longer being recognised by XP, even though prior to installing SP2 many users could connect the cam with no problems. IIRC MS have since released a patch that should fix the problems, so worth having a look on the MS web site for the download.

    Mark.
