Hi just sold my E30 and was waiting for the new jvc recorder but while im wating i am starting to consider a hdd model.

My question is can u copy dvd's to the hard disk and then back to dvdr and retain everything that was on the original disc ie: a single layer unprotected disc with 5.1 audio, and if so at what speed can u do it.

No! The machines do not allow dubbing from DVD-Rs or anything in DVD-Video format. Your only way to 'backup' DVDs is to use a PC (or a number of copy protection disabling devices). Whatever you can't get a digital copy using a HDD/DVDR combo. Somebody may develop a hack for one or more models but this would be complex and require extensive modification - well beyond most people.
