Ulead have bought your soul:clap:

FWIW I agree with him , It isnt all that:cool:
:D:D
Not completely. I've been using it on my old PC, which had a 4x3 17inch screen. But now I have Super New WS LCD display on Super Updated PC (this HD stuff doesn't half get expensive). And I realise its big problem which never bothered me before. It works very well and has the best and simplest HD output options of the lot, BUT..... How could they still leave it with a fixed set of Window sizing???!!! You can't play with it and get more stuff on the screen, never bothered me before... Roll on VS12, with, one hopes, properly controllable window sizes.

Maybe 11.5 service pack1, maybe;)

One of the Ulead Problems was perhaps a cash crunch followed by acquisition by Corel.
They stopped developing the excellent UleadMovieWorksop ( it is stuck at ver2 ) and Also Movie Edit Pro ( I think its called)
As such they Pitch VS and MovieFactory squarely at the home user who may be less demanding in some ways. You can put it on a wish list in their user forums..who knows it might be nobody else has found it to be a limitation hence the problem

Hi - I am new to the Forum today.
Can anyone help please. I use the Panasonic HD Writer to preview my video files taken with my HDC-SD5 Video Camera. It has been working OK and I have the downloaded update from Panasonic (the correct version recommended 2.0E) installed. All OK for the past few weeks.
BUT - Today the preview screen will only preview for the middle third of the preview screen. If a video opens in full preview screen, after about 10 seconds it reverts back just to the middle third size (similar to a wide screen effect on the TV). Then ALL other videos will only open to the same size. I have rebooted the computer, closed and opened the program agin, but there is no difference.
HELP PLEASE
Thank You.

Hi
Yes - I un-installed HD Writer, rebooted the computer and then re-installed the downloaded update. It made no difference. I also tried this procedure using the original disc of HD Writer supplied with the camera. But again it made no difference.
The point is , this problem has only just started. !!!
All the videos used to open in full preview screen.
Now they either open only to the middle third of the preview screen. Then if I open a different video, it will open OK the first time and then it will change the second time of opening. Then ALL the videos will only open this way.
Thanks for your help.
cheers

Hi
You can get the download for the HD WRiter 2.0E from the Panasonic site.
They list the update downloads, you just need to quote your serial number on the download screen. But make sure you choose the correct download version (Your number indicates which one). It is a BIG file (220MB approx).
You download each part (6 parts). and then install.
All the instructions are on the screen to follow, it is a simple process.
Good luck
cheers

I'm trying to download the lastest version of HD Writer 2.5E. I put my serial number in but all I get returned is a list of operating instructions but no software. I only purchased the camcorder about a month ago (HDC20 from QVC) but it only came with version 1.0

Any ideas?

I have the HDC-TM300 and that came with HD writer version AE1.0?

This is a much later and improved version than I had with my "old" SD9? I think Panasonic have got their software version numbering in reverse?

Original Panasonic HD Writer bundle with the first generation SD1 was called version 1.0E.
followed by version 2.0E (SD5) and 2.5E (SD9). I think there was a version 2.6E as well, but I'm not sure.

Then they started again with version 1.0AE, and now version 1.5AE --- all very confusing!

What is important is that the newer 'AE' versions will not work with footage imported from pre 2008 cameras, so there's not a lot of point in trying to upgrade, which is a shame, because I believe the later versions allow you to edit out parts of files, not just delete the whole scene.
They allow transitions and fades as well, not something the earlier versions allowed.
That's progress for you! :)

I have 1.0AE which does allow you to partially delete clips, albeit in a slow long winded way. ( iassume then I have the latest version?)

If i was only to trim clips does it still re-encode when I output to AVCHD?
In commercial software they tend to use a term called 'smart rendering' where only frames that have been manipulated (transitions, titles etc) get re-encoded.
The output speed tends to be quite quick so I would guess that it's not re-encoding.
Also when I create AVCHD DVDs from these outputted files does any other re-encoding take place?

I've alwasy had a thing about unnecessary re-encoding as my edit process doesn't usually go beyond trimming and joining clips. For SD DVD I've always used a great little program called Womble mpeg/DVD wizard which unfortunatley doesn't support HD formats.

HD Writer 2.5E Videos opening only in the middle third of the preview screen

Hase anyone found a fix for this yet?
I have been using the HD Writer successfully for a couple of years but after loading some video compression freeware I get squeezed preview screens 50% of the time.
