Panasonic GZ2000 OLED Owners Thread

Updated: Do you hear speaker crackling when watching the GZ2000

  • I still have crackling even after the latest version of the firmware

The TV does support Dolby TrueHD, with or without Atmos (that'll be full fat Atmos) but as you rightly state, without eARC, it can't pass that back out to an external processor/ soundbar etc...
So... the only scenario would be if you have a (UHD) Blu-ray player connected to your TV, you send the lossless audio track to it, and you then want to send it to your soundbar via eARC?

Kind of pointless for the GZ2000 since you have a very good built in soundbar, plus the overhead speakers. I don't think anyone would want to buy another soundbar for this TV.

I don't know, I'm just trying to find the usefulness of eARC :)

your panel si perfect.. not mine

look my pictures
Sorry only have access to my phone so not great for viewing your pictures but if you are seeing the uniformity issues in content then absolutely like was posted by another person before I’d look to try and swap it it. You can and should get very good uniformity from this panel.

If you're not happy with it then it's best to swap, what is that content you took that pic from? What is the quality? It doesn't look good but that could look like crap on anyone's set depending on the quality.

Maybe ask for someone to post the same pic of the content to see any differences. On holiday so haven't got access to my set to check myself.

But if you regularly see it in content regardless of quality then have it replace.

Indeed it would be necessary to have people who make me a picture of their GZ2000 panel. That would give me an idea. I just have the impression that the panel of the others are better and more homogeneous.

My panel seems to me as non homogeneous, with a posterization effect.

When I compare your picture to mine, it's clear that I have like the world map displayed... the right side is a kind of black cloud (dark grey) that you don't have ...

I'm a little squeamish about the price. I didn't expect this. Maybe I should have gotten a GZ1000 (1200 euros less in France).

I'm sure many of the ISF calibrators on the main land would venture to Jersey for you. It would certainly be worth enquiring.

With regards to you doing the calibrating with CalMAN, whilst autocal will perform a job, you'd be better off manually calibrating it. The i1 Pro will be up to the task although, it will struggle with low light readings, so you might be better off buying an i1D3 to use with it.

As for whether it's worth it - yes, it is as they're not as accurate out the box as you might be led to believe and you will notice an improvement post calibration.

Paul
Thanks Paul,

Some years ago I did investigate getting someone over to calibrate but it started to get expensive with flights etc.

I think I will try a manual greyscale calibration via calman with the i1 first & see how it goes.

Am I right in thinking that I should wait till about 200hrs use before calibration?

Cheers,

Justin

Hate it when you miss an ebay sale end!

On Sunday I missed a GZ2000 that had a cracked screen during fitting but powered up and ran a treat. It went for £130 .... it had everything inc the unused remote and all the internal board in perfect order. An absolute steal and this early into the life cycle... the pedigree had to be fully genuine.

Is weird that, exactly the same and yet it seemed so important before I bought the set! :)

I have a 3gen Alexia box in the same room and like I mentioned, was very surprised how responsive the google function on the Shield was but I can see zero mention of any such function.

The very quickest of web search throws this back .... hardly promising but not read in any detail...

And then this .... ever wished you'd read a bit more??? ....

'The GZ2000 provides support for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice recognition - though only if you have an external listening device. '

So you need the Alexa box in some form. I guess you then have to load the less than well rated Pana app to enable the relationship.

Anyone been through these steps? Do they play well? Happy results?
Thank you very much for all the feedback on this item. I did laugh when I read the details in the link, not really what you'd expect in this day and age, however, when I visited John Lewis just before Christmas to have a look at TV's it was amusing listening to people trying voice commands and the TV's going heywire, someone even put the remote to their mouth (sales rep was amused!) to speak to it when it wasn't required (bit like the Star Trek 4 sequence with Scotty sitting at the PC talking to the Mouse saying "Computer ...")

Actually I have already eArc compatible receiver with 5.1.4 speaker setup. eArc is great for lip sync issues.

I'm also curious to know if 2020 OLED panels has any improvements as well. If I don't bite on the sale, I would have to wait probably another year for H2000.

If someone nice could give me a picture in dolby dark vision, on the OA series, at the 11:50 time of episode 1? Cause I feel like my screen created the posterization...
thank you

What an awful looking TV show. Not sure if this will help but here you go. I can’t see any banding or posterisation but it’s very grainy. not demo material 😁 in fact probably one of the worst looking things I have seen

Hi Strator100, I noticed your post with the photographs of the amended back plate which looks really neat. May I ask a dumb question or two? How did you map out the cutting area and what did you kit it with. Thank you.
Hi JohnnyV, you've just given me an excuse to "sketch up" how I went about it. I would hide the panel if you need to do any warranty work in the future though...
To mark the position of the cutouts you should remove the panel/rear connected leads:

I then used masking tape to mark the position of the cutout areas onto the outer face of the TV (ensure you keep tape vertical/horizontal):

I then attached the cover panel:
20200121_191405.jpg

Again keeping horizontal/vertical I matched masking tape across the panel:
20200121_191437.jpg

I then removed the panel from the TV and marked with a pencil the areas I wanted to cut:
20200121_191514.jpg

I then using a cordless drill and jig saw (fine blade) I drilled the corner radius using a drill bit big enough to ensure the jigsaw blade could fit to allow cuts joining the holes giving the cutouts:
20200121_191558.jpg

I then used round and flat files to remove any plastic sticking out and to straighten and finish the cutout. When done to your delight, fit to tv, fit cables, sit back and enjoy...

Hi @Strator100, thank you for taking the time to provide, it’s really impressive, shame as you say that Panasonic don’t provide in the first instance. I’ll print these off and add to the things to do list. You could go into business doing these mods! Thank you once again.

No, I agree on eARC being a little pointless for the GZ2000, I was just pointing out the TV's capabilities.

I think you've inspired me. 😬

Yes, I imagine it wouldn't be cheap to get someone over.

There's anecdotal evidence that the TV will 'settle down' after X time period but, it depends on who you ask, whether that actually happens or not. Personally, I'd wait to 300 hours and have a go after that. Not that there's anything stopping you prior to that though, of course. I first calibrated mine the week I got it. :D

That tinting looks very bad :( It's very visible in normal viewing...
I'm sorry to say this, but I think you should try swapping it for another one... and hope the third TV will be the lucky one.

By the way, this is the thread dedicated for GZ2000 alone since it uses a different technology than the other GZ series.
Here you can find the thread for GZ950, GZ1000, GZ1500 :smashin:

That’s unacceptable in my opinion. I wouldn’t accept that.
