Panasonic FZ series (802 & 952) OLED Owners Thread

I'm interested in this too and have asked the question a couple of times

Yeah. I had a cheapish Sony Blu Ray 5.1 all in one surround sound before this and the subwoofer sounds more rattling when it's used on this where on my old one it was more of a deep "boom" sound from a stand alone box. I've no idea which one is more correct I know nothing about audio.

Is anybody else watching the scottish open golf on sky

Im seeing the same thing again as on last weeks irish open

The colour density on screen of the green background keeps going lighter then darker

Its hard to explain but im sure anyone else watching will notice it

Im using 'normal picture mode'

A good or even a basic 5.1 will trounce a soundbar for audio quality. You do have to have the room to set it up properly. A stand alone sub from specialist manufacturers can really add to the filmatic experience.

Ah I see it's a shame you can't get just the stand alone sub to work with the soundbar. I'll look into sound systems one day in the future (the tv was quite an expensive purchase for me). Hopefully it will still look "right" if I take the sound bar off (it's wall mounted).

I believe most soundbars come with their own subwoofers. They will always sound better than just using the TVs speakers and in many cases, especially if the TV is in a corner, they are the better solution than having a full surround sound.

With the larger screens, ie 65'', often the best place for them is in the centre of a large wall and this is the position that would be best suited to the full surround sound experience. We all have to live within our means and it would be best to save for a good system in the future.

There are plenty of the forum who will help you when you decide to make that move.

Richers have the 55" 802 on a flash sale until Tuesday for anyone looking to take the plunge.

I wonder if we will ever get anymore firmware updates?
Doubtful. I think my previous EZ only ever got one FW update in the time I had it. What would you like to see in an update? Not being sarcastic, genuine question The only thing I’d be interested in is a logo luminance adjuster ( or whatever it’s called on the GZ ) but apart from that, I’m happy.

The sound of my 802 opened up beyond belief by enabling the PMC option and selecting surround Pro...and i select music. don't know if it is my place but more than good. Will just boost sound with hifi for the movies but not even sure i need to bother...
Hi Goldorak
I've been asking for a while about recommended sound settings for the 952 as mine sounds very flat. Can you tell me exactly where I can find the 'PMC option' please?
Many thanks

Yeah, quite surprised to see that Logo Luminance Adjuster added to the GZ. Would like to see it move over to the FZ too.

Besides that, there's a couple things I'd like, but by no means expect.

- Occasionally when launching Netflix it acts as if the down button is being held down when it's not, and I have to press up to stop it scrolling. An annoying bug that I would think could be patched. I am certain it's a bug as the same also happens on our 2018 Panasonic FX740 LED TV. Whereas our 2016 Panasonic DX750 LED TV does not have this issue at all, so seems to be a 2018 issue.

- Freeview Play TV apps won't pin to the Home screen. It's not a big issue as I don't use them that often, but I would have liked to have BBC iPlayer pinned alongside Youtube, Netflix and Amazon. This was a feature I use on our 2016 Panasonic DX750 - the BBC iPlayer app is pinned to the Home screen on that, so from my perspective I consider the feature to have been removed.

And lastly, the audio woes would be nice to be resolved - though I'm not sure if this is a Panasonic issue, or just the likes of ARC being crap in general.

- It only ever works consistently if I am happy to settle for PCM Stereo (I'm not btw). Using HDMI ARC, while it works briefly it soon slips out of sync and even has frequent audio drop-outs. Switching to Optical resolves the audio drop-outs but lip sync issues do resurface after some time. Typically it can work for much longer without any issues.

I have found if I encounter lip-sync issues on Netflix/Amazon that exiting these and briefly playing any video on Youtube gets the lip-sync back inline.

.

Logo Luminance adjuster and ability to PIN freeview Play apps to home are probably the two additions i'd like aswell.

Really enjoyed the Tennis today. Two great Semis and the TV performed really well on the UHD feed.

On a less positive note. Last night I was watching TV with the lights off in Pro 1. The end credits had a black background with bright white text. I noticed some blooming on the edges. Protruded about 1-2cm in on the edge and then further on the bottom left corner.

Almost looked like what I used to see on my old Edge lit set, albeit far far less pronounced. Will set the panel for maintenance tonight.

Has anyone else seen this? Could be the content I guess, just strange given the frame was completely black on the edges with the credits in the centre.

802 performed brilliantly on the tennis in UHD, the detail on the faces in crowd in the evening sun was brilliant as was the totally natural colour. Just finished watching Sicario 2 on Netflix, again perfect no stutter, judder or any problems whatsoever.

Tennis did look good, though there was some strange colour shifting going on. It's as if the screen was flashing a subtle pink every minute or so - looked more noticable on the wide angle shots of the green court.

I'm assuming it's just a BBC iPlayer HLG issue (given it's still technically a beta). Not seen this effect elsewhere with HDR content; UHD Blu-ray, games, Netflix and Amazon all appear fine.

I had nothing like that. All that happened was some sound drop outs that were a broadcast issue. There were some problems on the first day of the tournament with colour shifts but nothing today. Perhaps is was a broadband problem with you.

Didn’t see any colour shifts either.

I believe they use an adaptive stream, so it will drop resolution/bit rate if there are bandwidth constraints. Perhaps it was a side effect of that?

Perhaps. As I say, not seen any issues with other HDR content, so will just chalk it up to the fact it's a beta.

It could be that - not sure, if others have spotted it in the past then I am not concerned.

My connection maxes out at about 32Mb. I figure the BBC HLG streams will be more intensive than Netflix or Amazon, especially if they're running at a higher framerate.

I did have some stuttering issues too, figured out this was due to Netflix 4K going in the other room. Turned that off and playback continued smoothly.

I seem to recall they say you need 40mb for their UHD/HDR beta. Below that it may drop bit rate/resolution.

So may well have been the stream adapting to available bandwidth and doing a poor job of it.

Also you have to bare in mind whilst you have 32mb down there may be congestion/contention anywhere along the route. Earlier in the week I suffered drop outs and I’m on a 100mb connection.

Next time try exiting the steam and then going back in. Might help. Although they have limited slots, so maybe not a good idea for the final. Would be annoying if you couldn’t get back into the UHD stream :)

Now that you’ve mentioned it, I don’t know what I would want, I know Dolby Vision is off the list, and I’m sure they won’t update the OS to the latest model GZ :).

I think we’ve been spoiled in this time of software / firmware upgradeable phones, tablets, laptops etc. We’ve come to expect our new toys will receive upgrades. Back in the day, you bought your CRT telly and that was it for about 5-6 years before you replaced it

Sure, it'd be nice if the channel logo dimming function from the GZ was ported over to the FZ via a fw update... if it actually worked, that is :)
The one comment I saw about it in the GZ thread stated that it apparently doesn't do anything?

Well, I've asked for some feedback now in the GZ thread.
But reading about this feature on the LG 8 series OLEDs, it's not a "miracle" solution: it may dim logos by up to 20% after a couple minutes of on-screen time. It's unclear whether it works for partially static elements too, like sports score banners and such.
Would have been nice if they completely faded out the logos, or at least reduce their luminance by something like 70-80%... I do know what channel I'm watching, after all, or I can press the info button on the remote if I've forgotten :)

I bought the FZ952 from Costco a few days ago, love the tv but I’ve noticed something while on YouTube menu and then when I watched an OLED test video on YouTube. Also noticed it abit while watching normal tv. It’s only when the colour is grey and only certain shades. It’s like a darker blotch in the bottom left corner. Doesn’t happen with any other colour except between 5-25% grey. Thanks very much for any help. Pictures are the best I could take on iPhone.
