Panasonic will Launch 50", 58", 65" full HD 1080p PZ600 plasma televisions on September 1. Also the largest plasma TV in the world the 103" PZ600 will be available by special order also from September 1 with deliveries starting by the end of September. I am pleased that the 4000:1 contrast ratio is maintained with the full HD models. Here is the news link:

I was going to buy the PX600 but I'll wait a few months for the PZ600.

From the PZ600 release

"The new top-of-the-line VIERA 1080p HDTVs highlight Panasonic's prowess in technological development, production know-how and IC technology. For example, the new models incorporate the newly developed 1080p PEAKS (Picture Enhancement Accelerator with Kinetic System) plasma panel which achieves blacker blacks and a stunning 4,000:1 contrast in dark surroundings. To maximize the performance of the panel, the new 1080p PEAKS driver supports 16-bit image processing that produces razor-sharp motion pictures and displays 100 percent more shades of gradation than the previous model1). The images are so vivid and true-to-life that they can evoke emotion and feelings in the viewers. "

Sounds too good to be true!!

Not sure how much visible difference the 16 bit image processing will provide...

Now is this going to cost me two kidney's and an eye to purchase?! :)

I'm not sure if I just made it up but is it true that it's difficult to notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p on 42" screens and below? Doesn't it only come into its own on bigger screens (50 inch plus)?

Is this true? i understood you only notice the difference if you are sat very close to the set.

Agreed, can they make the pixels small enough for a 42"???

I find I'm sitting closer to my 50" because of the extra detail with HD

There's some more information on the Panasonic japanese website now

You can check out the models on this link

http://panasonic.jp/viera/products/pz600/index.html

or if your japanese isn't that great you could try the translated version on this link - although the quality of the translation leaves a bit to be desired (or maybe they actually speak like that)

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpanasonic.jp%2Fviera%2Fproducts%2Fpz600%2Findex.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

Still no dates for the UK release.

There is also the TH-50PF9 panel as shown on the Media Factory website

http://www.tmfsolutions.co.uk/homecinema_plasma_panasonic.htm

This is tentatively due in Oct - does anyone have any idea about prices?

If anyone here can get the PZ600 then I will be shocked.
$75,000 for a TV is a bit OTT imo.

That's got to be for the 103inch monster (which weighs in at 345kg btw)
Otherwise $75k for 50inch is simply outrageous!!!!
