I would be grateful if anyone else here could post their tv serial number and whether or not their tv has the stutter problem.

The stutter can be fixed for hdmi inputs by turning on Gaming mode or Pure Direct. This option is not available for viewing using the internal freeview/freesat tuners.

    Regards

Could you please describe as clearly as possible what is meant by stutter problem, what it looks like and what material can be used to check for it (in YouTube for example).

Ok just noticed links to test material but how do I test them on my own tv?

I find the stutter most evident with left right head movements, visually there is a missing frame.

Another clip people can try out is from Star Wars Rouge One, in the sequence after Darth Vader chokes the director, approx 1h 17m on my SkyQ recording, The rebels are having a council meeting about the Death Star, look out for any head movements stuttering.

Noticed another one yesterday. In The Strain season 2 Ep 9, the old guy is searching an apartment about 45 minutes in and after throwing his sword cane on the floor in frustration, treads on a loose floorboard. His head, as he notices the sound and turns, does the same thing. Head turny frame skipping is a very new thing in TVs.

Based on a petition from forum members to LG to address similar problems on their OLEDs last year, I have created a petition to highlight the problem to Panasonic. I would be grateful if owners could sign, plus any potential owners who have been put off buying these TVs because they have heard of this issue. Please spread the word, the more traction it gains, the better chance of a fix in this and future models.

    Sign the Petition

Please sign the petition to get the ez952 stutter issue fixed, courtesy of SteveRobertsBBC.

OK, it worked for LG, it might work for us. I have created a Change.org petition here:

    Sign the Petition

PLEASE sign it and spread the word! The more signatures it attracts, the better the chance of getting a solution.

    Regards.

Hi, my tx-55ez952b serial number 350768 does not have any perceived stuttering, banding or colour tinge. It just gives an incredible picture.

After a month waiting for Panasonic to update the firmware to fix this issue, I’m sent mine back for a refund. Very disappointing.

Hi, I bought a TX-65EZ952B about a month ago. It suffers noticeably and repeatably from the stutter problem - it's infuriating. Using Game Mode as a fix, but shouldn't have to. Serial number is NV-7350219.

Interestingly I think (hopefully not imagining) I'm noticing this, watching The Crown in 4k HD occasionally with head turns, all very subtle. I've contacted Panasonic for information, I understand there's an update being released which will fix this?

I find watching freeview I get alot of stutter, particularly on head movements, the humax freeview pvr outputs 1080p50. The Roku 3 I have playing Netflix outputs 1080p60, and I've yet to see stutter in Netflix playback, just watched the 'Dark', not a single stutter.

The issue has got to be the 25P/50P to 60P frame rate conversion that's the problem

So if I understand this, if I were to watch Netflix using a PS4 as a source there would be no stutter, it's purely from the in TV app? And there is an update expected any time now to correct it?

If I watch Netflix from my Roku which outputs 1080p60 I don't get stutter, or not seen it yet, if I use my humax freeview box which outputs 1080p50 I see stutter intermittently, mostly of small movements such as head/body movements.. at the end of Bancroft this evening, as Bancroft was running past the brick building to her car, her body stuttered quite noticeably.

Trouble is, a lot of Netflix shows are shot at movie frame rate (24Hz) so using a 60fps source means you’re getting 3:2 pulldown added which is its own type of judder. Far less noticeable than the random stuff you get with 50Hz sources though.

Some people have said they’ve seen occasional stutter with native 24Hz from a Blu-ray player too. I haven’t noticed that myself yet.

Had the following reply from Panasonic which at least shows they are addressing it :
    Thank you for your e-mail.

In response, I would explain that we are aware of this issue and we are currently looking into it. As it is still under investigation, a software update was not yet released. Regrettably, we do not know how long this would take.

In the meantime, we would advise enabling Game Mode as it will solve the issue when using external devices. To enable Game Mode, please follow the steps below:

    1. Press Menu.
    2. Select Picture > Option Settings.
    3. Set Game Mode to On.

I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind Regards,

I have just received my new TX-65EZ1002B with serial number NV-7320249. From the list of serial numbers you have been tracking, does this appear to be the one that may have stutter?
Also, are you suggesting that I download all the test video clips onto a USB drive and play them on the TV to test the presence of stutter? Please advise.

I am glad i don't use ifc, but tbh it still sucks that there is no fix for people who do want to do so tho.

I'll imagine with your serial number you'll have a 200a version.

Interestingly, Panasonic seem to be playing around with motion handling with their previous firmware updates. I received a replacement 65EZ950 2 days ago. My first impression was that motion handling was better than the previous TV (running update firmware 4.142, 230a). This morning the replacement TV had updated from 4.131 to 4.142, and my immediate perception was that motion handling was back to that of the previous TV. I do use IFC (I guess that makes me a heathen) on Min... they seem to have "toned it down", so the Mid setting on the new firmware is closer to the Min on the previous firmware.
I'd love to know what the equivalent Custom setting would be... have played around but not found the perfect combination.
Now that the 2018 TV's have been announced, I suspect Panasonic wants to move on. I'm not holding my breath for a fix to the stuttering issue.

Can anyone with an affected television let us know whether there has been a firmware update that has fixed the issue? I’m considering re-purchasing one and I see that the price has dropped again, but that might be because they’re abandoning this model for a new, with no intention of fixing the stutter.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

It has not been fixed, there is hope, since Panasonic have said both on camera and email, that a fix will be issued, however they have categorically stated that they do not know when.

    Thanks, that’s good to know.

If you turn off IFC and turn on Games mode wherever possible, and use an external Amazon box for accessing a Netflix/Prime Video, will that effectively avoid the stutter problem completely.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

If you were to buy a new TV today it would have the 270b firmware, as long as its manufacturing date is after July 2017, and with this firmware the stutter is not present with IFC off, no need to activate game mode. The game mode fix is Panasonics 'blanket' solution for all EZ952s regardless of firmware, but as I said, if you're on 270b you'll have no issues simply with IFC set to off.

All fine if you prefer IFC off. Those who don't (and chose Panasonic because of better motion handling and interpolation than LG, or better colour accuracy, or better upscaling, or whatever...) paid extra over LG for (among other things) IFC that is supposed to work properly but had known issues (stutter), and still expect a firmware update which fixes this to be delivered within a reasonable time.

If the firmware update finally emerges in the next month or so but doesn't fix the stutter with IFC on, my EZ952 (270b) will be going back to JL, along (I suspect) with many others.

Completely agree. IFC is such a major part of the TV for me that I won't be keeping it should a firmware fix not be forthcoming relatively soon.
