    Hello,

I am buying the Panasonic EH50 DVD recorder.

How good will the PQ be using it as a DVD player in component to my PW7 plasma?

I am currently thinking of buying a dedicated DVD player (maybe pio 575) and don't want to waste my money if PQ is going to be the same.

Can anyone help me out here?

    thanks

    Nick,

I am not an expert by any stretch but have been using an EH50 for a few weeks with a PV500 via component. I think the PQ is pretty good from all "sources", prerecorded DVD, DVD recordings and HD recordings.

I am using pretty cheap Vivanco cables but the picture has good contrast, colour, sharpness and is noise free.

I haven't seen anything else that's available, I got this as part of a deal with the telly, but I think you would probably need to have very high standards not to be pleased with the quality of the EH50.

    Hope this helps

Nick, i've got a 575 hooked up to a veria and a E85 and i only use the 575 for dvd watching, i think its better. The E85 is a solid performer but i thinbk the 575 is better.

i had an EH50 but swaped it for the E85 due to firmware issues. i didn't notice any great differance in the picture between the 50 and the 85. and lets face it the 575 is cheap as chips :D

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to the DVD recorder/Hard drive component market. I just moved to Japan from the US. I actually just looked at the Panasonic DMR-EH50. I was wondering if this component will play (or can be hacked to play) multi-region DVDs. I'm basically looking for a hard drive unit/DVD player that will do this.

Where are you from? Is the DMR-EH50 sold worldwide? I'm hoping that it will have menus in English.

    Cheeky,

My EH50 was not multi region out of the box.

    Chuchi,

Try here for an excellent service, not sure about shipping to Japan though.

I think you'll find they mean multi format ie. it can record onto quite a few types of discs. It is illegal for Panasonic to supply their machines as multi region straight out of the box.
