Recently when I have been switched on my E85H Panasonic recorder it switched on as normal, but when I go to the hard drive menu, (with thumbnails) the pic is there, but the sound is not, and it is still not there if you select the thumbnail to watch.

The only option I have is to turn the machine off, and then back on, and then the sound returns.

Has anyone else encountered this problem.

My main concern is if this problem gets any worse, as it only happens occaisionally, and otherwise the dvd recorder is excellent for my needs.

    Thanks for any help.

Try pushing the scarts plugs firmly home - especially the non-cable end - that is where the audio pins are. Perhaps remove and re-fit. This doesn't really explain why switching off and on seems to fix the problem, but bad contacts can trigger 'on' when power suddenly starts.
This worked for the last guy who wasn't getting any audio on playback.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately that did not work, as I had another soundless start up last night.

    Any other suggestions??

    Obviously try another scart lead.

I seem to remember I had that two or three times on my HS2. I can't remember how I got the sound back; maybe I switched it off via the remote. It hasn't happened for a long time and has never happened on my E95. All I can say is that it hasn't got worse. If it's still under warranty, maybe it's worth contacting Panasonic.
