    I've just purchased a Panny E85 but I'm having a problem when I play a DVD.

I have connected a digital optical out cable to my home surround kit but when I play a DVD I get no sound unless I unplug then optical out cable and then plug it back. It then seems to work fine.

I know it's not the cable or my home surround kit as both worked fine with my previous DVD player. I have the settings as per the manual for digital optical out so I don't think it's that.

Has anyone else had this problem or does it just sound like I have a faulty unit.

    Cheers in advance

I had a problem with the E65 and then my E85 with regards to optical output having never had a problem with any other equipment.

I finally realised that my amp would not work properly unless I converted the optical input to electrical input.

Still not sure why this is the case.

I too have had a similar problem. I've got a Philips Dolby Digital TV which has only got an electrical coaxial audio input. I bought the Maplins optical-to-electrical converter so that I could get Dolby Digital sound from my Xbox and this worked fine. It also worked with the optical output from my Pioneer Freeview STB.

However, I've just bought an E95 and I initially thought it was faulty as I was getting no sound at all. It wasn't until I half pulled out the optical cable that I got sound. If I then slightly push it in further then the sound starts to break up. As long as I leave it half pushed in, it's ok.

I've queried Panasonic about this but haven't got a reply yet.
