first off are you recording from sky digi etc or analogue and ssecondly it depends on what recording quality you have it on.had mine a few months pic quality is fine on copied and pre recorded discs and the menu system is very nice aswell.apart from it being RAM i really cant complain, and if you go to richer sounds you can get a multi region one for 220 quid.

Can you expand upon what you mean by this? Do you 'copy' your disks to DVD-R, DVD+R or DVD-RW? If so they will play in the E55 provided they have been correctly authored. If you copy your disks to CD-R/-RW in DivX (or other MPEG4 varieties) or WMV then they will not play.

I've had the e55 on loan from Richer Sounds and it's better picture quality than the e60, in my opinion. And you get thumbnails on your recording, which I like.

I'm not sure what format CloneDVD pushes the 'copy' out in: I presume (from the name) the DVD-Video standard in which case the E55 should not have a problem playing them. If in doubt take a copy you know works down to your local retailer and ask if you can try. But it should work.

The E55 will also play MP3s but only, as far as I know, off CD-RW or CD-Rs.

I'm sure they will. I've done such tests in a variety of shops: Comet, Panasonic and Sony shops - so I'm sure if they have a model available they will let you test it.

I have been looking at getting a DVD Recorded and have set on the E55.

At comet we have it for £300. Even with my staff discount RS still works out cheaper.

I would get a price match done but the model at RS is region free.

Anyway, what i would like to know is this:

    Can i create menu structures?

i.e. I have set up a series link on the footy on my Sky+. If i copied these matches onto DVD could I get a menu to come up upon loading of the disc with say a list or even better thumbnails for each match?

Do you understand what im asking?

    Thanks.

p.s. Would the quality between the e55 and sd330 warrant keeping the sd330? see my sig for my kit.

    Hi

panasonic E55 at asda is £249 ish but if you know a asda "Colleague/worker" they get 10% discount, so machine is £224.
only thing is this is in limited stores as a trial
minworth(west mids) Manchester( not sure which store), Southampton (not sure which store)

The Panasonic Helpline quoted to me
"DVD recorders are repaired/warranty like most P.C's , on a collect and return by them basis" unlike other items in there range that have to go back to the seller or panasonic agent .

    hope thats of help.
Also most Panasonic agents/dealers have a promotion on starting this week,
£279 and this includes 5 x -r discs, and 5 x Ram discs. still a bit pricey , but at least they are including discs now.. bought mine last week, and no discs was included..... bit like buying a new car with no petrol in it !! nice marketing panasonic  :nono: :nono:

Well I took mine back to Richer Sounds (the e60 that is) and Panasonic replaced it with a new one. However, it wasn't made multi-region so I had to wait for that to be done by RS (good thing I noticed it, they hadn't).

The e55 is £220 at Richer Sounds btw.

    Regards

    Dude

I use dvd-cloner to make backups, but they don't play on my E55, yet they do work on my panny RV31, but if i use dvd-cloner to copy the files to my hard disk and then use nero v.6 (nero Burning Rom - option) to copy from Hard Disk to dvd-r they play fine, the quality is as good as the original.
    Hope this helps

by all accounts it is only slightly below the pic quality of a ns900,although i havent done a side by side and i do own a ns900 im pretty sure it would whip a tosh 330 lol.

I have some questions about the E55:
I bought it in the UK but live in Sweden where we have channels below 21 which the E55 didn't have. Does anybody know if this is possible to change this thru the software?
It was also hard to tune in any channels above 21 (found two with bad picture). Is there different PAL systems that are not compatible?
When hooked up to a digital decorder with RGB and outputting prog scan component to a Sanyo Z2 the pq was not as good as expected, especially with football (go Sweden!). Has anybody else this set up and how is the pq?

    Just an update on price.
I phoned RS yesterday - They quoted me £255 for the MR version. PRC direct has this for £249 (no extra for post). Best porice I have found is Digital Point (see http://www.digital-point.co.uk/model.asp?ID=840) which has MR for £225. If yiu dont need the MR then PRC Direct is £215.

Does anyone have any experience of using cheap blanks with this model. Will it work with anything. Also what about the chaeper DVD-RAM that you can now pick up for about £2?

regarding cheap blanks, ive only used ritek graded A, GO4, about 50p (uk)a throw, these work fine
ive only used the same "Smart Buy DVD-RAM" that Dude1971 above has used , and like him i find them fine, i use them for everyday recording.
