I,ve got an E55, great machine, sits in a rack, hardly notice the fan, its much quieter than my pc, only drawback is that it does not have firewire

If your referring to digital audio Optical input then no UK DVD recorder does!

My Panny E20 failed, with my local repairer saying the part is "discontinued", so right now I have a very dim view of Panasonic, the Tosh DR-1 I replaced it with is much better, in fact better than the E55 I also have, £199.95 from Richer Sounds, with Firewire and it writes to DVD-RW, and more flexibility with the recording mode

DVD drives for early oanny recorders are about £350 so a nnew machine is cheaper...... Does the DR-1 have an RGB input?

Is it available abroad? If so which country & what makes?

I think this thread got sidetracked.....

Does anyone own a Pioneer DVR220? Is that fan noise noticeable during

    a) standby
    b) recording
    c) playback

    Cheers

I've recently got the Pioneer 220 and the fan noise etc is not noticeable regardless of what the system is doing.

I have got mine on an open stand under my TV so its not enclosed in a cabinet or anything.

I wouldn't worry at all about the 220 being noisy.

p.s. its a great little machine to replace a VCR - I'm over the moon with mine.
