I decided to go for the Panasonic E50, having trawled the forum till my head hurt, only to find that nobody appears to have any stock

Can anyone say if they have bought one recently (either region 2 or otherwise) and / or of they know of any retailers with stock at a reasonable price.

Also does anyone know why these stock problems occur - is it a sign that a new model is on the way?

Any assistance much appreciated as I am getting extremely frustrated and am about to go and buy a Philips DVR-75 from Richer Sounds if I cannot get a Panasonic this week.

I too am on the hunt for the elusive E50.

I emailed a couple of suppliers, and they expect stock late Jan / early Feb.

Have you tried John Lewis? They do a 2 year guarantee as well.

Got mine in a local shop (Stevenage, Herts) and they matched JL including 2 year guarantee and they also reduced the scarts I was buying as well.

Thisa is a bad time of year to buy anything. I suggest www.unbeatable.co.uk for £247.99 when they have some in stock, this is where I got mine from. What is the E55 all about btw ?

Going OT but I went to unbeatable.com by mistake, the US version, if only the prices were £'s not $'s!

£299 is tempting, but not as much as £249 just by waiting a fortnight for e-tailers to get more in stock.

I did contact all the big e-tailers - including the panasonic centre.

The E55 seems to be pretty much the same as the E50 - but will the EU model have component out?

Always use a barclaycard price promise.

here are some details on the new Panny recorders.
Main differences of the E55 to E50 seem to be: records up to 16 hours, improved disc-contenmts preview, progressive scan (pal), component out.

www.techtronics.com are advertising in the dvd mags this month the e50 at £235.
I recently bought mine at www.leconcept.com more expensive at £299 normally £259 however its multiregion so not too bad,im beginning to yhink however I should have bought the e100 model with the harddrive instead.
