Panasonic DVD-S25 HDMI problem.

When connecting this dvd player via HDMI through my receiever (Sony STRDG700), I am only able to obtain picture and NO audio.
I have been through all the menus and options I can find!

Any help greatly appreciated,

hi there,

i had a chap in the shop the other week with the same problem with a different amp.

turns out after cheking the manual that the reciever would only handle/switch video and not audio as well and needed to run an optical or coaxial audio lead seperately, crazy but true!

if you've no specific leads handy try a normal phono to phono, audio or video lead. from the dvd player to the appropriate input on the sony amp that ties in with the hdmi inout it should work!

although hdmi doeas varry digital audio as well as video it would seem that sony chose to just switch the video on it's own. a bit like the older amps that switched composit/s-video/component

That is very Weird.
So the HDMI inputs on this amp dont accept audio at all?
I find that hard to believe!

it appears the hdmi on the amp will route it through to the tv but not into the amp itself

Yes, this seems to be true

My annoyance now is that the digital output on the dvd player is optical and the dvd input on the amp is coaxial! Bugger!

i'm sure your amp has four optical inputs!? according to that link i posted!

they might be labelled as other stuff but i think they might be 'assignable'

I thought of that but from the manual, it doesnt seem possible to reassign the optical inputs
