My old video has an OTR button: each time you push that button, 15 minutes of recording time is programmed into the VHS.

For example: you switch on your recorder and your faforite programs starts, but you have to leave and there is no time for programming.

If the program last 1 hour, you simply push 4 times OTR, the recorder starts immediately recording and shuts down after one hour.

    I hope I was understandable ?

Is there such function on the Panasonic DVD-recorders also ?

Yes - just keep pressing the RECORD button on the unit: it ups the recording time in 30mins blocks.
