I have been waiting patiently to get a DVD recorder and this seems to be a reasonable option - particularly because it can play back one spot on the disc while recording another and is not much more than £400. But I am worried about a few things: 1) DVD-RAM discs are quite expensive (£12 for double sided was the cheapest I could find at http://www.first4media.com/ - know a better price?) But it was suggested to me at the shop that I could use DVD-RW discs in exactly the same way and these cost £3.20 for single sided - as long as I don't mind a small extra physical danger because of the lack of a caddy. Is this true? 2) Are there any reviews available yet? 3) Does anyone know of a significantly better or cheaper DVD recorder coming in the next few months that would be worth waiting for? (Or one that is much better now that I have missed)? 4) Is it clear yet which of DVD-RAM or DVD+RAM is going to win in the marketplace? Does it matter? 5) I don't particularly need to do it at the moment, but is there any reason to doubt that one day I will be able to make the DVD recorder multi-region compatible? 6) What is the lowest high street price people have found? I would like to buy at John Lewis but feel their "standard" price of £449 is a little high since I can buy it for less than £400 online. They don't honour online-only prices however.
