Talk about the proverbial damp squib, the Panasonic Press Conference has just ended out in Vegas and we were left with more questions than answers with regards to their TV line up for 2012.

Instead of focussing on the products, Panasonic elected to showcase the various apps and services that will come along with them - greater interaction with mobile devices, Social TV, Web Broswer, yada yada.

We could have been telling you that Panasonic have skipped the 40's to go straight in to the 50's with their new TV ranges and that it had nothing to do with a big technological leap, just the number 4 is bad luck in Japan. We might have been able you to tell you of the all new drive scheme employed in the new Plasma's with its 24,576 levels of gradation and the 2,500 Focussed Field Drive but we're going to have to wait for all the good stuff. We did see a glimpse of some of the new cosmetics and a nice looking touch remote but we can't help feeling just a little let down, despite the nice new designs.

But don't despair, Phil and Steve wont be letting them off so lightly when they visit Panasonic on the booth, so stay tuned for plenty more coverage!

Lots of flash words and high numbers in there that mean next to nothing. This has me interested though "24,576 Steps of Gradation"...then Im not sure what my GT30 has off hand:laugh::facepalm:

I thought half life was 100,000 hours, they say up to 100,000 hours all just wording I guess.

Mark can you ask Steve and Phil to ask about the Gradation, Focused field drive? They likely cover it anyway but thought it best to ask.:)

No mention of bluetooth 3D replacing infra-red - presently the sender is in a position making centre speaker placement an issue ?

Hmmm....well seeing they are pushing the application side of things I would have thought Panasonic would have a stable platform to work from!

Viera Connect outrages at the moment (the last 4-5 days evenings to midnight) are getting a bit tedious now.

Panasonics web platform has always been mediocre and underwhelming. Wonder why they are concentrating on this side of things.

In all fairness though, "24,576 levels of gradation and the 2,500 Focussed Field Drive" means nothing to the average person on the street (and I can only guess at what a Focussed Field Drive might do), plus not very journo there will be an ISF accredited AV nut, so whilst disappointing I bet there would have been even more blank faces if they'd given a presentation on the stuff we're interested in.

I'm really shocked by the gradations, that's twice as many as the pro plasmas. I can't wait to see the results.

The FFD seems to imply they've dumped the concept of sub-fields altogether, not sure where the 2500 comes from though.

It has 4:4:4 chroma sampling too, don't think the pro has that either.

I dot think its possiable, if those faces were any blanker theyd fall off!

Now I know what my GT30 has I cant wait to see a new set, GT30 only has 6144 levels. Think my green infected GT30 may go back in a couple of months instead of the next week or so now lol.
Im guessing the Focussed Field Drive is to do with motion?.

Just looking at the tech on the LCDs and they have a proper 200Hz frame creation capability.

What a shame that they don't add that to the plasmas, looks like we'll get the p60 botch job that is IFC again.

The VT50 for me looks very tempting and I am hoping it will be a direct replacement for my 46sv685 which is hanging over our fireplace so I don't have to faff around moving the mounting brackets or cables.

I've been saving hard for the VT30, I guess I'll need to save a little harder for the VT50!!

Any news on UK release date and how will the prices compare to the VT30?

Not seen anything yet but my guess is the VT50 will be around the same price as the VT30 when first launched so £1799??
