Panasonic DMRE50 remote problem

I have a new E50 DVD recorder and have inadvertently set the remote to DVD REMOTE 2. The instructions say press ENTER and 1 simultaneously to reset to DVD REMOTE 1, but this doesn't seem to work. So I can't get into functions on-screen to change the setting.

Any idea what the problem is and how I can get round it?

just press enter and number 2 together for 5 seconds
and it restores to default..
