Just looking around some Internet av retailers and noticed several have reduced the price of the HS2 HD/DVD Recorder by some margin. The best price I have found so far is £679 for Region 2 and £699 for Region Free at multiregionmagic.co.uk which I think is a great price considering a region free machine was around £850 recently. Wonder why the reduction now?

It's about to become a very competative market over the next few months.

I think i read somwhere that this model will be replaced with a new one. Major improvements include a larger hard- drive
I am sure someone else on the forum will be able to provide more detailed info. Still, sounds like a bargain at that price.:smashin:

There is a replacement for the HS2 which has an 80 gig hard drive rather than the 40 gig of the HS2. When I spoke to Panasonic a few weeks ago they said it was going to be available in August. Hope the Price drop of the HS2 means it's going to be sooner! It will also play MP3 files.

There are some details here: http://www.avland.co.uk/panasonic/dmre90/index.htm

Having just followed the order link at AVLAND and seen the price of £949 for the new one, I think I'll monitor the prices for the HS2.

I find it hard to believe it will be more than the Hs2 which used to sell for about £800. I know it has a bigger hard drive, but prices should have droped generally to offset that IMHO so maybe that price wil drop when it's released ---- £1000 was the full retail price of the HS2, but most people sold it for £800.

On the main page of the AVLAND website it says the DMRE90H has a 80gb hard drive then on the second it says it has a 120gb HDD. then states it has a 160hr recording time.
    Anyone know which is correct?

when I spoke to Panasonic, they knew nothing of a 120 gig drive version, only the forthcoming 80 gig one. At that time, AVLAND were showing two different drives; 80 and 120 gig ones.

There's a feature on Panasonic and their dvd recorders in the May edition of Home Cinema Choice magazine. They mentioned that the HS2 replacement will have a 80gb hard drive and a faster HDD to DVD-R dubbing speed. They said it would be released in autumn, which is rather vague.

And following on from my earlier post, the price of the HS2 has fallen again from a couple of suppliers. PRC Direct are now selling it at £644.95 (R2) with free delivery. Anyone found it cheaper than that?

Yes I found that yesterday, but haven't found anywhere cheaper yet.

I'm having a real strugle deciding whether to take advantage of the low price of the HS2, or wait for the 80 gig version, which is what I really want.

Just got of the phone from Panasonic. They said that the new model, which will be the DMRE 100 will be available in September. However, the HS2 will continue to be manufactured throughout this year, so effectively there will be two models available. They couldn't give a price, but when I suggested that the new model would take on the price of the HS2 (as it was) and the HS2 would fall in price (to what it is now) they thought that could be the case but obviously, that was their personal opinion, not Panasonic policy as they don't know prices or pricing policy.
