Well the price for this at dabs looks good compared to all the other sites showing it at £400 +. have just placed an order for the black version and got it for £311 delivered. For some reason they gave me a £20 voucher on my account which I havnt used for 3 years!! The price seems low ..hope it isnt a mistake!! It isnt multiregion but im sure the usual methods will work but as money isnt taken till despatch which is a week or two away then can always cancel if a better deal appears.

Do you know if this model also plays DIVX?

I'm looking for a 1080p DVD/HDD recorder and so far this one or the Pioneer 550HX-S seems to fit the bill but they are both new models for May I believe and not much info floating around yet.

The detailed specification for this model is still not available.
However, it has been released for the EZ27, which is part of this new range , and as before, DivX has been specifically excluded from the UK version of this model ... so it does seem very likely it will be excluded from the EX 77/87 also.

According to AVLand, the new Panasonic range is still not available. The new machines were supposed to be out this month weren't they

I happened to cross a link from Multiregionmagic sometime before the weekend.. and they were claiming to have the EX87 in stock.

[ I think it was that model - It may have been the EX77 ]

Panasonic stocks often seem thin on the ground and slow to get going.

Cheers. I'm very tempted to get the EX87 but would rather wait and get it from AVLand, unless anyone knows another online company who offer a good service like they do ?

Thought you might be interested. Ordered from DMR-EX87EB multiregiomagic on Friday afternoon (lateish). Unit was delivered early Monday am (yesterday) as promised. Multi-region is definitely working. Have not had time to complete setting it up and evaluating all other functions yet. £319+£10 delivery seems like a bargain especially when most suppliers don't yet have stock.

Have checked on the Panasonic website and it states "MPeg2 Record and Play to SD"

Does this mean that I can record programmes to an SD card?

I have been after a recoderer for ages that recorded to SD so i can watch my sky+ programmes on my phone/laptop when I'm no night shifts so if this is the case then I'll go and buy this straightaway.

    thanks Rod

Beware of this feature and check it out very carefully before purchase.

As yet, the detailed specification is STILL not available from Panasonic, and on the previous model, the MPEG 2 / SD card features were limited to transferring material from certain of Panasonic's own camcorders ONLY.

I have the DMR-EX87EB-K viewed on an LG32LC2D. The latter is capable of 1080i and even after playing with various settings last night picture quality is better through SCART and TV upscaling than through HDMI with EX87 upscaling. Will try again but a bit disappointing :( . According to the manual there is no Divx decoding (i.e. it is not mentioned). According to the manual the SDHC card cannot transfer any video format. + points, the EX87 is my first HDD/DVD recorder and easy to use, manual is clear (although English is odd at times). DVB-T reception better through the EX87 than the TV DVB-T tuner.

Got mine from Multiregion in the end as it was £319 incl delivery . Just unpacking it now and nice surprise to see a quality gold plated 1 metre HDMI cable in the box. Saved me another couple of quid!!

Just rang Multiregion and he had a quick look through manual but could not find anything relating to recording to SD. He said to try the online manual however there doesn't seem to be one on the UK site.

If someone gets a chance could they advise whether they have managed to copy video to SD as this is the main reason I want to buy this recorder.

    Thanks Rod

I wonder how long it will take them to put THAT right... if ever.

I have not seen a downloadable manual?
So I emailed them asking if they could make the manual available for download, so lets see if they can manage that.

Only got it connected by component at the mo but looks pretty good to me. But some things are annoying me that i enjoyed on the sony 910 its replacing. In standby mode the clock still shines brightly (even when dimmed). On the sony only a small red light showed. In the titles screen when you sort them (I like program title sequence).. it reverts back to the default of record date when you put into standby ( the sony kept your choice so I have to resort them every time!!). Also when you select a favourites profile in the guide it goes back to default after going into standby!!.. Dunno if i can live with these things ( menial I know) Might Go for the latest equivalent Sony and move this into the bedroom.:thumbsdow

Could you answer some questions please?

    1. How long does it take to start up? For example, if I press the Eject button from stand-by mode how long does it take to open the drawer. How long does it take to start playing a disc from standby mode? I ask because my Samsung DVD-HR735 takes over 20s to open the drawer and even longer to start playing a disc.

    2. When recording a programme from Freeview does it automatically record the name and synopsis?

    3. How easy is it to remove adverts from programmes recorded on the HD? Can I simply mark the start and end of the advert while watching the programme in play mode? ]

    4. Can it split a programme in normal playback mode? Again on my Samsung it is really tedious as I have to use a special edit mode to do any editing and there is no access to the normal Go To Time menu item etc. This means if I want to split a 2 hour recorded in the middle I have to press FF and wait 5 minutes while it fast forwards through the first programme. I want to "Go to 1 hour" and then split.

    5. How easy is it to name a programme? On my Samsung it is very tedious as I have to move a cursor around an on-screen alphabetical keyboard which takes forever.

Hope you can help - it sounds like an impressive machine and I hope to get one if it is easy and quick to use.

Is this posssible with this new DVD recorder.

I have a Virgin Media cable (NTL) currently used with a Philips DVD recorder.

The Philips controls the cable box very effectively but I fancy a new DVD recorder to go with my new Panasonic Vierra Plasma.

Does anybody know if the RF output can be used to watch programmes recorded on the hard disc please? (I know this isn't the best way but find it useful for watching programmes while washing up or cooking in the kitchen).

No, Both the current range and the previous range have / had NO output via RF.

One workaround is feeding into an old VCR and using the modulator output on that for RF distribution.

Thanks. In case anybody hasn't found it, the manual is available from http://www.panasonic.co.uk/customer-Support/download-centre.asp

Enter EX87 to search for it. This will show several results. The second DMREX87 link is actually for the DMREX87EB which is the UK version:

    DMREX87 English (17.5 MB) 06/04/2007

The last result is a quick reference sheet for the DMREX87EB:

    DMREX87EB English (1.3 MB) 06/04/2007

It appears that the DMREX87EB supports DVD-audio but the DMREX7EB doesn't.

I was a little disappointed to see that audio delay (lip-sync correction) isn't built in as I know some cheap DVD players have it. I guess I need to upgrade my old Sony amp to get one with an audio delay feature to compensate for the picture delay on my Pioneer plasma.

The manual provides the confirmation that, as previously suspected ...the AV4 input has been removed.

That will reduce the connection flexibility in comparison to the previous generation.

    Yo

Does it have series link function to record a series, like sky plus. I know the Sony has it.

    Thanks
