I've connected teh cables up as follows

sky - 1 scart into tv and the other into dvd.
dvd - hmdi cable into tv,1 scart into tv and the other into sky box.

i can watch sky on tv but not through dvd recorder, get sound but no picture.

I have the EX77 and am only connect via scart to the tv and Sky box, no HD tv so no HDMI leads required.

so you've pressed the Input Select button to get to the Sky channel, but you can only hear it?

unless there's something wrong with the cable connnecting the Sky box to the dvd recorder, i can't think what it could be.

Have you configured AV2 on the EX87 to accept RGB/Video ? If not then please do so. This setting can be found in Functions-To Others-Setup-Connection.

You will also have to ensure that it is the TV scart from sky that is feeding the DVDR as this is the only socket that outputs RGB.

It sounds like you are probably configured this way in any case.
I believe your problem has something to do with using the AV/TV button on the sky remote [ If that is what it is called - I've never seen a sky remote ... Sky - Ptooey]

Under certain conditions, when this button is pressed, it removes the RGB output - which would account for you having sound only.

Glad that things are now working for you.

However if you intend to use Autoview on the Digibox then be aware that when it wakes up with Autoview the output is only composite and you will have the same problem unless you configure AV2 to accept RGB/Video.
